Genesis 5:4 tells us that Adam and Eve "begat sons and daughters." Adam and Eve did have many children.

Therefore, brothers must have married sisters at the beginning. Remember that the law against close intermarriage was not given until the time of Moses—e.g. "none of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him" (Leviticus 18:6). There was nothing wrong with brother and sister marriages, originally. If you think about it, that is the only way to populate the world, starting with only one pair. Notice that Abraham married his half sister with no condemnation from God, even though this was later forbidden.

Also, as Adam and Eve were created perfect, their genes would have been perfect. As the curse God placed upon creation started to operate only after they sinned, their descendants would not have had many mistakes in their genes. These mistakes (harmful mutations) add up only after a long period of time.

So brothers and sisters (Adam and Eve's children) could have married and not had the problems of deformities in their offspring as might well happen today, if such close relatives married and had children. This is because today humans have lots of mistakes—because of the curse—in their genes. This may cause problems when matching pairs are inherited from both parents, as is much more likely with close intermarriage.

This is a common question asked of Christians, and it has a very good answer.

Basically: Adam and Eve had many children, so Cain married a sister, or a niece.

The only logical answer one could come up with is that the person would be a sister.

One might assume, though it is not specifically stated in the Bible, that Adam and Eve had the "ultimate gene pool" and as close relatives reproduced, the gene pool continued thinning out. It wasn't until later in the Old Testament that God finally put a stop to having relations with close relatives.

Well you ever know Lilith Adams first wife may have had a baby and it may be her. I know it would be incest but the bible does not mind a bit of that read about Lot.
Just a minute did you not know that Adam had a wife before Eve. Well according the the original version of the old testament he did but she was too stroppy for him so they separated

That's what happens when people do not read the Bible for themselves.

Genesis 5:3,4
And Adam lived on for a hundred and thirty years. Then he became father to a son in his likeness, in his image, and called his name Seth. And the days of Adam after his fathering Seth came to be eight hundred years. Meanwhile he became father to sons and daughters.

Cain and Able were their first born sons, after them came many more children.
As their parents were created perfect the children were almost perfection themselves, that is why they could marry and have children without deformity.
And before you go on about incest, the Mosaic Law came almost 1500 years later.

I don't know how many times this question has been asked. They had sons and daughters. Seth is the third child mentioned. So they would have married a sister or a neice from the land of Nod.

What you have to understand is that in Jesus's time people were very illiterate, and so the only way to explain to them how man and woman was created was to describe it as a "fairy tale". You could not explain how things evolve on this earth to these people. That is why Jesus told the Parables. He had to explain things in a very simple way for the people to understand the message.

Well according to early Hebrew bibles, God made Adam and Lilith at the same time from the same dirt... and therefore she considered her self equal to Adam. Adam didn't like that and had God curse her and cast her out of the Garden of Eden. Then that's when God reached into Adam's chest, removed a rib to make Eve which as she is made from Adam, made her to be subservient to him.

But yes, what you are getting at, there would have had to have been a whole lot of incest to populate the planet from just 2 people.

Personally I find it all hard to believe and grasp... that some magical man from the clouds made us out of nothing but dirt. Evolution seems far more plausible and likely in the development of human beings.
