The missionaries will introduce themselves. They will try to have a series of discussions. The topics include Jesus Christ, the Plan of Salvation, the Apostasy, Joseph Smith and the Restoration, Living Prophets, Prayer, the Word of Wisdom.
Where they start and how much they cover is based on teaching by the Spirit. They don't want to debate or argue, but they try to make it an interactive discussion. If someone has a church and has a strong faith, that's fine. The next person has been praying for someone to guide them.
Tracting by going door to door is the least effective missionary activity. Most success comes from referrals from members. Next are media referrals.

It is called a "door approach". The purpose is to start a conversation that could lead to a teaching moment. In Japan folks were fascinated by the fact that we were Americans and there on our own nickle (unpaid). If a local pastor has been preaching "Mormons aren't Christian" then "We'd like to leave you with a message about Christ" is a guaranteed door opener. No such thing as bad publicity.

there is a friendly comp betwinxt JW & LDS...based on your zealuous prostylizing and ours. Here is the skinny:
There is an opening question....if you open the door, desk, cite, conversation, bus, car, hospital, wherever & allow LDS to talk. The first question is something like..do you know of prophets in the bible,,,have you a fav.? Now this is just me and my missionary commarades..every pair is human and unique as humans get.
a pamphet is provided to keep it somewhat uniform. This tells the way Joseph Smith, Jun. became a prophet. compairing him to the above opening question. The common parting request from missionary to investigator is read this pamphet and pray for if it is true...if you pray you will get and answer.
A JW approached me downtown and asked if i wanted her books, i said i was LDS and she called me a sheep stealer. But I'm not stealing anyone, only those that read the pamphlet and pray get dunked.
If JWs go to countries even though Christian missionary work is illegal in that country, then (a) you have my respect
(b)but it is disobediant. the harder battle is to pettition, barter, negotiate,,, the gov of that country and change the law first.
Our King [of kings] does suffer you to bear His Name, a privilege known to few "Christian Faiths"..you's awight in my book, catch ya on the flipside
with Love...your brother

I've had Mormons call at my door. I must say they are very nice and polite and very young. Their main goal is to promote their book {bible} which they feel explains Jesus' existance on the earth in the 20th century. I believe it's called the other book of Mormon....anyway, they ask more questions than give answers about their work in the ministry when they find out you're a Witness.
They want to know how our work is done, how long are we required to preach the good news [they're obligated to preach for 3 yrs] I was told. Are we required to go out everyday, if we receive a form of payment from the "church" as they do.....etc, etc, etc..
I chatted with them for about an hour over coffee and I placed 2 books "mankind's search for God" and the "truth" book and a require brochure.
The second time they came, it was with an "elder" he was about 4 yrs older than they were....at least 23 yrs old! [smile] he was their 'back -up".......I offered them all a free bible study, and they never came back again. I have to say though, they 2 younger ones were interested. [19yr olds]

Why, are you trying to steal our methods? ;-)
Well, actually, the general idea is to find out whether people would like to learn more of Christ. Our method of sharing the gospel may vary from person to person. We try to build on common beliefs. When I was a missionary, the first visit typically included a discussion on God, Jesus Christ, the role of prophets, the role of Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, and how one can learn the truth through revelation from the Holy Ghost. If the person is interested in learning more, we discuss more topics on subsequent visits.
If you would like to experience firsthand how Mormons preach, follow the link below, scroll to the bottom, click on "Request a Copy" (of either the Book of Mormon or the Holy Bible), and provide your contact information.

Actually I have talked with the young men a few times. They are always very polite. I usually do not tell them that I am a christian , I like to ask them questions such as: I was reading about the history of your faith and I was wondering why your brethren slaughtered people when they crossed Mormon held territory (now parts of Utah)., that didn't seem to follow the path of healthful teaching. I ask them to explain Revelation 22:18-19.....18 “I am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; 19 and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll.
That usually tips them off that well I might know a little about what the bible has to say , but we generally have polite disscussions , and Mormons I meet in the ministry are most usually very polite, they will accept the literature (they might toss it afterwards) but they usually are very polite , and thats nice. A good question to aks one of the young men next time you meet one is this. "if you really really love the ministry can you stay a missionary? You will be suprised at the answer.......learned that one from a D.O. while working with him one day out in the ministry.......but very nice folks in general.

I'm not sure. I see them all the time in my neighborhood. 2 weeks ago 2 Mormons visited the Hall when we had our congregation bookstudy. We had our Circuit Overseer that week. They only stayed for the Revelation book discussion. I was so excited to see new faces at the Hall. They introduced themselves elder so-and-so. I thought that was interesting. I didn't get a chance to really talk to them. I hope they come and visit us again!
I'm curious to know the answer to this question as well.

I consistently welcome them in, and supply them something to drink. I do in reality like to pay attention what different religions could desire to assert. I tell them that it quite is going to be a 2 way communication nonetheless, and as long as they understand that then useful i could like to pay attention. there is plenty approximately religions to be found out. And our prophet mentioned that there is sturdy to be found out from everywhere. So quite, a lot of my faith interior the LDS doctrine has got here approximately, and new be responsive to-how and inquiries to hunt deeper have come from inter-faith talk. a number of those conferences I learn that express church homes are down suited evil and repressive, notwithstanding it rather is great using fact it quite isn't changing me. the a number of conferences have actual became out quite nicely the place the two facets are getting to understand with open minds. The latter is the single I want.

Mormon missionaries have several "door approaches" to share the message of the Gospel. It all depends on how the missionaries are impressed by the Spirit to share a certain message. All messages are centered upon the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I had them come to my house quite a while ago now. I cant remember what they were trying to get across. But I do remember they kept referring to the Book of Mormon.
And I told them that if they cant prove what ever it was( cant remember now) from the Bible I wasnt interested. But they just werent as familiar with the Bible as their own book, and just didnt want to use the Bible.Definitely no comparison to us(Jehovahs Witnesses)
