A brief look at polygamy in the Old Testament:

Let us look at some of the verses from the Old Testament that allow polygamy:

In Exodus 21:10, a man can marry an infinite amount of women without any limits to how many he can marry.

In 2 Samuel 5:13; 1 Chronicles 3:1-9, 14:3, King David had six wives and numerous concubines.

In 1 Kings 11:3, King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines.

In 2 Chronicles 11:21, King Solomon's son Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines.

In Deuteronomy 21:15 "If a man has two wives, and he loves one but not the other, and both bear him sons...."

There are a lot more verses from the Old Testament that allow polygamy, but I think that the above are sufficient enough to prove my point.

Jesus said: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (the Old Testament) until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:17-18)"

Christians always say as an excuse "Oh this law doesn't exist in the New Testament, it is only the Old Testament." Well, according to Matthew 5:17-18 above, we clearly see that Jesus honored the Old Testament, and forces Christians to follow the unmodified laws of it that have not been replaced by newer ones in the New Testament. The Old Testament as we clearly see above does indeed allow polygamy without a shadow of a doubt !!.

There is not a single verse from the New Testament that prohibits polygamy.

I'm not ultra religious, it just fascinates me learning how religions come about, how they change over time, and how little those changes have to do with god. I ask about the king james version because my grandmother is a jehovas witness and constantly talks !@# about it.

Hezekiah was declared to die by GOD Almighty, and then GOD Almighty changed His mind and healed him!

2 Kings 20:1-6
1 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, "This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover."
2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,
3 "Remember, O LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes." And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him:
5 "Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, 'This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the LORD.
6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.' "

So first Hezekiah was declared by GOD Almighty that he was going to die and never will recover, and then GOD Almighty changed His mind, healed him and let him live. Hezekiah was after all recovered by GOD Almighty!

GOD Almighty does not change His mind, but yet, He did countless times before!

Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

Was it so you could have a better life on earth now?
Was it because that is what your family raised you as?
Was it some other reason?

Every year at this time, I find myself sickened by the amount of materialism and greed the Christmas holiday seems to give rise to. As a single parent of 2, I can't help but wonder just how far from the true meaning of Christmas the whole "shop til' you drop" dogma is. I'm not even a true Christian, and it really ruins the holiday for me. What do you think? Is there any way we - as a society - can ever return the true meaning to Christmas? Or have the money changers and corporations got us all by the you-know-whats?

Is one more important than the other, or do you believe that it is necessary to understand the origin of the universe and our planet in order to improve the world today?

In your opinion, is living ethically equally important to understanding why or how we are here, or is one of higher importance than the other?

Atheists put them there, to make us think that the world is older than what the bible says.
Everyone knows that the big jesus horses that paleontologists find are just made up by atheists.

This says nothing of agreeing with what they say.

However, don't you (at least a little) admire the stance that "You're going to hell. That's what the Bible says, so it's what I believe. I know it's not pretty, but I have to accept that."

Let's be frank, it's pretty ballsy in this overly happy-go-lucky, lets-all-get-along-and-ignore-our-differences world.

I certainly don't agree with it, but at least they're being honest with themselves and others about what the Bible really says.

Before you disagree, think of Primoa (an R&S Regular). He firmly believes what he believes, and is honest about who and what he is. No matter how much we disagree, I respect the hell out of him, and like him as a person for his honesty and forthrightness.

So, deep down, do you at least respect the honesty of those who DO have the courage of their convictions, who say "This is what the bible says, and whether I like it or not, this is what I believe."?

Why would believers come to this forum to discuss their beliefs? What's to discuss? The bible is right there in black and white.

Why do they constantly ask Atheists questions? Why do they answer atheist's questions?

They are secretely craving a dose of reason and reality, and this is where they get their fix.

So be gentle.

Because of your beliefs?
I have found that the majority of religious followers, of ALL religions, believe that their beliefs make them better than others. This includes atheists, since they are like a religion in that they have "faith" that there is no god. Which is something that can neither be proven nor dis-proven. Are you better than anyone?

I know for sure that many disagree with the biblical sabbathday of the Lord and that is your choice. In light of all the scriptures that pertain to this blessed day God made at creation of this planet for man it brings us to him. Why ? It shows that we are created not just by and intelligent design but by a wise and intelligent God. In exodus 20:8-11 & hebrews 4;1-9 , the sabbath put us in memory of his power to creat and give us structure in work eithics and finally rest from our labours and works after six days. Who wouldn't want to just rest and be reminded that God is ever for us to bless us. After all that is why he told Israel to keep it , Ezekiel 20;20 "And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God". So I firmly know that there wouldn't be any Atheist If the sabbathday of the Lord was kept without controversy in all generations. Now sunday the first day can be traced to sun-worshipping and Constintine the great.

For the religious people, when you go to church, or the kingdom hall, or a signaguge(I know I spelled that wrong), do you just sit there and accept everything the preachers says or do you question the validity of at least some of what he/she says?

These 3 religions all have the same root structure and beliefs. They share the same God and same angels and when you compare to other religions the differences are actually minor.

So why all the conflict?

Is this like sibling rivalry?
