Because the sons of God were intermarrying with the sons of men creating races of corrupted people. Read Genesis. That is the REAL REASON.

I have work colleagues who argue many of the earth's features could be explained by a global flood. As flood traditions exist in many cultures its possible there was a massive flood in the past. Whether it was caused by God is a question that cannot be reconciled

Contextually, God didnt actually cause the flood. The people believed it was Gods way of punishing the sinners in the world. It was a natural occurence that may not have been historically accurate in the bible but contain religous truth. God did not physically cause the flood, but was taken as a sign. (This is the Catholic Belief)

He didn't. There is no geological evidence of a worldwide flood. A flood of Noachian proportions would leave behind several tell-tale signs.

Floods sort sediments hydrodynamically. This would result in a worldwide rock layer that has larger particles at the bottom, with the particle sizes getting smaller as you near the top of the column. There is no such worldwide layer.

A flood would also have no way of generating limestone, which is one of the most common sedimentary rocks. Limestone forms very slowly as calcite-bearing organisms die and accumulate on the sea floor. A single flood could not account for the observed quantities of limestone.

There is, however, one worldwide layer that utterly disproves any notion of a worldwide flood. Located between rocks deposited in the Cretaceous Period and the Tertiary Period, there is a layer only a few inches thick that contains very high levels of iridium, a heavy metal that is rare on earth but common in asteroids and comets. The only way such a layer could be distributed over the entire earth is if such a body struck the earth at the end of the Cretaceous. It just so happens that this also coincides with the extinction of the dinosaurs. There is no flood model that accounts for this.

Lastly, fossils deposited by a flood would not be stratified to the degree they are found, but would be randomly distributed. The worldwide pattern of fossil distribution supports a slow deposition over about a billion years.

The flood myth is simply a borrowing of an older myth, rooted in the Sumerian Eridu Genesis tablet. There is strong archeaological evidence of a major LOCAL flood in the Tigris-Euphrates valley, around 2900 BC, which is probably the source of the story.

There is an ancient Celtic Creation myth that states that the sea giants (Formorians) caused great waves to flood the Earth because they were jealous of the Sidhe (pronounced "Shee"). Every religion has their mythology.

Reverend Soleil, know that you are being commended by the "thumbs down" people. I wear my "thumbs down" as a badge of honor; the more I get, the more people knew I was right and couldn't refute me any other way! :)

Read it in the 6th chapter of genesis starting at vs. 9
It was to destroy the evil from off the earth and start over with Noah and his family!
If you`re going to wonder why God would start over? Was it because he messed up the first time, the answer is NO!
According to Gods plan, it had to happen just as it did so that Noah could be born!

This is what God says about that:

"Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. So God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth." (Genesis 6:11-13)

The world was filled with atheists.

FYI... archaeologist have found evidence of massive world wide flooding during the time described in the Bible. It is not plausible that i could have covered the all the lands but fossil records showed there was a massive submerging during that time period.

To wipe out the sinful nature of the earth. And there is proof of the flood. Scientists have found oceanic fossils ontop of mountians! That is enough proof for me.

1)created group of people, explicitly state that they can never be perfect,, it's an impossible pursuit.
2)kill them all for not being perfect, including all the babies because of course they will grow up sinful like their parents.

but God is love right?

Ichoops, I don't know one credible scientists who believes in a global flood, that is plate tectonics bud, it's been established as that for some time and it's undebatable, study it.

God created this world for His pleasure not ours as is commonly accepted today. God created us to fellowship with Him and to worship Him. But the idiots got all wrapped up in themselves and worshipped the creation far more than the creator as you see happening right before your eyes these days and that is exactly why it is working up to the last days.

M't:24:4: And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
M't:24:5: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
M't:24:6: And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
M't:24:7: For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
M't:24:8: All these are the beginning of sorrows.
M't:24:9: Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
M't:24:10: And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
M't:24:11: And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
M't:24:12: And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
M't:24:13: But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
M't:24:14: And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
M't:24:15: When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
M't:24:16: Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
M't:24:17: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
M't:24:18: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
M't:24:19: And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
M't:24:20: But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
M't:24:21: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
M't:24:22: And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
M't:24:23: Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
M't:24:24: For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
M't:24:25: Behold, I have told you before.
M't:24:26: Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
M't:24:27: For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
M't:24:28: For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
M't:24:29: Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
M't:24:30: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
M't:24:31: And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
