Because of your beliefs?
I have found that the majority of religious followers, of ALL religions, believe that their beliefs make them better than others. This includes atheists, since they are like a religion in that they have "faith" that there is no god. Which is something that can neither be proven nor dis-proven. Are you better than anyone?

"he who thinks himself better than one is worse than all"

Lao Tzu

as a side note, many have erroneously believed themselves "better" than others because they feel that, because others think themselves "better" than them, they are in fact better than those who treat them as such! confusing, but true.

No. I still am able to learn from all people. Whether they are Christian, Jew, Muslim, Atheist, or whatever. If I ever get to the point in my life that I think that I am better than another, I realize I'm in trouble and have to ask for forgiveness.

As a preacher, humility is a must have trait. Am I perfect? Do I get it right all the time? Of course not. But as long as I can find the good in everything said or action taken, I know that I am no better than anyone.

To some extent. If you believe something, you must think you are correct, or you wouldn't believe it.

Naturally if others believe something you do not, you must think they are incorrect. So in that narrow context, I think I am better than people who disagree. However, that's just one facet of life. A believer might be a harder worker than me. A better parent. A more generous contributor to the poor.

On the hand, I might be a better worker, or parent, or volunteer than some believers.

As an aside, though, Atheism is not a belief.

"This includes atheists, since they are like a religion in that they have "faith" that there is no god."

No, that's simply false. It doesn't take any faith to not believe in things for which there is no evidence.

Why would you feel the need to put this lie into the middle of your question about whether some people are better than others? Surely you don't expect that we're going to just overlook it and say "Despite the lies, you're just as good as me".

I am actually quite a horrible person in my own mind. Bottom line I try to never put myself above others. I have always been that way but I recently read somewhere that this attitude is one of the most common behaviors of "succesful" people. It's no wonder either. Those people that put themselves above others have no time for success only themselves.

I think we are better or worse human beings solely based on the content of our heart. That is to say a good man or woman with a good heart is one who always does whatever he or she can to help others and truly cares about others, as oppose to the man or woman who has an evil heart, don't give a damn about anyone just as soon spit on you as look at you... That's what makes one human being better than another..The content of the heart !

No, but it sounds like you are an agnostic like me. Still, I believe in God, though God can never be proven or disproven. Everyone else is free to believe whatever they want, and I can respect that as long as they don't try to cram it down my throat.

I'm better than about 50% of the entire worlds population.
At the same time, I'm worse than the other 50%.
That makes me good old plain average.
Isn't that nice.

No, I am not better than you are. I make no claims to be better than anyone. I am a pantheist Witch, just myself, striving only to be better than what I have been already.

This brings to mind a line from "Oklahoma" when Aunt Eller sings, with a smile: "I ain't saying I'm no better than anybody else....BUT I'LL BE DANGED IF I AIN'T JEST AS GOOD!" :D

Peace and good cheer to you!

God asks us to be humble. I don't know how a true believer would elevate himself over others if he sincerely followed the paths of his saviour.

There were thousands of people who assisted Hurricane Katrina victims--who traveled thousands of miles and put their own money into rebuilding and rehoming people who had nothing left.

Would they do that if they considered themselves more important than others?

I personally am absolutely no better than any one at all. I am just extremely lucky to have found the truth about our Creators love for me and accepted it. I would rephrase that to: there are fortunate and unfortunate.

Take care and may God bless you spiritually.
