wow, when asked properly, this question actually makes sense. of course there aren't any surviving proto-hominid apelike ancestors...only their descendants!

Proto-hominid apelike ancestors are like people you invite over your house for a party and they never seem to leave.
They should have left the scene millions of years ago, but no, they keep hanging around like a bad rash

The present would not change or alter the past.
Our ancestors would be in the past and would not be affected by the present state.
Only those of our "ancestor" who were alive at the time of our birth would be present in the here and now.
Our long, lost ancestor, of the near or distant past would be just that, past.
Our current state would not alter them.

For the same reason there are still Jews even though Christianity evolved from Judaism.

Just because one species evolved does not mean the first is not still around. Fish are still here even though we all evolved from ocean animals.

if evolution would have happened, we evolved as a means to survive. so what ever we evolved from would not have survived unless they evolved too. put simply people came from people, not a monkey looking caveman.

All life evolved from single cell plants and animals and they are still here. What's hard about that?
