Well, before you think of me as a "jerk" for asking that, maybe I should explain that if you complain it doesn't mean that you are "selfish", (God forbid, We have our freedoms in America, cause our founding ancestors complained about and to King George.)

I just need your review and hopefully constructive criticism of an idea that I am pondering.

Here it is:

It seems to me that “selfish” people complain a lot (sometimes those complaints are logical, and sometimes those complaints are warranted). Intelligent people (I mean deep thinking people) complain very rarely, instead, they either adjust to the circumstances or they simply go about changing the circumstances.

The question is: Please help me refine or re-think this, or point out the flaw in my logic , before I make a major decision in my life based on the above premise. --- Please "fire at will, Dudley."

It seems to me that it just pushes the problem back a step. The argument I'm talking about is specifically the argument that says:

1. Life forms are complex.
2. Complex things require a creator that is more complex than the creation.
3. God is the only thing more complex than life.
4. Therefore, life forms were created by God.
4a. God did not require a creator.

My issue with it is that it posits God as a complex entity that doesn't require a creator. Why make this exception?

Can anybody explain to me why the argument isn't as bad as I think it is? Thanks.

Also, if I've given a strawman version of the argument, I'd be happy for someone to correct me.

My parents left the catholic church long ago, thankfuly God brought me back this past spring. My parents weren't too happy when I told them but they have been warming up since then. God told me that I need to bring them back to His church, thats why He woulnt let me stay on campus over break :( so I've been working very hard and I can see it happening. Sadly my childhood and memories with my parents is a part of me that darkness has ahold of. I am trying to let the light shine through but its hard work. So I still dislike my parents.

One of my goals is to invite them to attend Christmas Eve Mass with me, but I dunno how to bring it up. Any suggestions?

There seem to be some linguistic issues when debating religion... For example, it seems the word "faith" changes meaning constantly... The terms God and god have an ambiguous relationship...

Are there similar problems in other languages?

I'm in my RCIA course but I'm having serious doubts about the whole thing. Are there any Catholics who don't agree with everything that Catholicism or the church stands for? What can I do to get rid of these doubts? I'm having doubts about everything from the trinity to the Marian doctrines.

answer a question. This is not meant to be insulting, just the truth.
An atheist quotes the Bible to support something and "we are taking it out of context", but you quote the Bible (even though there is a contradictory other passage) and you are right. A question is asked that you have no idea for and all you can say is "God provides all", "All part of God's plan" or "Just God's will". If it truly is all part of God's plan or God's will and he knows all, then there is NO FREE WILL. Can you understand that at all?
And amazing that God provides all or God performs miracles, but yet he has never helped someone who has lost a limb, why is that? And please try to truthfully answer that, I know being truthful is hard or answering a question directly is hard for you.
It is amazing that you constantly state that Satan is full of lies and deceit, well it appears that since you can not answer a question at all, it is easy to observe who you are more like, and that would be Satan.

I actually also wrote this in additional details on one of my questions, but I said this to a very religious person at work who wished me a Merry Christmas and said "Jesus be with you" - which I did not take offense to, but here is the statement:

"Merry Christmas to you, and may your god bless you as my lack of faith has blessed me."

She thought I was mocking her and said "You will burn for that".

Any thoughts on this? Would you take offense if you believed?

protestants work from the bible which was written and edited by roman catholics in the years leading up to the souncil of carthage (397):

http://www.catholicapologetics.org/ap030700.htm

but if protestantism is a real denomination, why would it use the catholic bible?

i realise protestants ignore many books (though the apocrypha was included in protestant bibles until a century ago) - but a catholic bible with a few hundred pages torn out is hardly a new text.

When I got married, I opted to keep my own last name, because I am still in school, and everything was registered under my name and it would be easier if I kept it the same for the time being.

What are the Christian opinions on this? I have heard both sides from Christians so I wanted to know what your thoughts were? Does a wife have to take her husband's last name?

Religiously, I'm a devout Christian. Politically, I'm a liberal Democrat.

I'm pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, anti-death penalty, pro-stem cell research, and I'm for the separation of church and state, among other things.

Am I the only liberal Christian alive?

"18 And I say to you: That you are Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven."

I see it as Christ giving Peter power of the Church so He could return to Heaven. I'm interested into what you think it means

so i've noticed that i have actually heard of way more people surviving cancer that was deemed "0% chance of survival" then i have heard of people dying from cancer.

and how come we are never presented with actual documentation of this "rare" and "miraculous" occurrence?

does anyone else notice how this event only happens to a friend of a friend of a friend of a cousin of the person your talking to?

what are the other non-believers thoughts on these "miracle healing" stories.

Everything we do is influenced by outside influences we just respond to them.
We thrive and make decisions on just one implulse
Our impulse to CONTENT OUR OWN SPIRIT--the NECESSITY of contenting our own spirit and WINNING ITS APPROVAL.
No one does anything for any other reason or person.
