Wheat or Tare?
Answering the call by leaving the world and every value in it to follow by faith begins our death to self (Unless a grain of wheat falls and dies it cannot bring forth fruit) . Do you think that trying to follow Jesus without leaving the world and its values makes someone a tare?

...find it wonderful that some find peace in their religion? I'm not referring to those who use religion to justify hateful acts, only those who use it as a source of personal comfort?

I fall into the non-believer catagory. But I'm pleased that my friends who are believers have found something they needed.

Any opinions?

and since most men believe cindy crawford would want to sleep with them if she met any of them, the same must be true, right? how could so many people believe something that isn't true, without any empirical evidence whatsoever? certainly it must be true. these people aren't just deluding themselves are they?

I've heard people say it's the theory of evolution (TOE) which is what makes it so hard to argue against (because it can change), it's been a fact for over 100 years, etc. What is so dangerous about the double-edged word choice, being able to be one or the other at any given time? Evolution/adaptation/variation/speciation are indeed all facts, but only when used in the context of a dog producing another dog for example. It has been observed in nature, and in laboratories that you can produce more breeds within a species. That makes 'evolution' a fact. However there are certain arguments within evolution that keeps it a theory. 1 for ex.: Small, gradual changes, moderate jumps, and/or huge leaps. Now if evolution is an undeniable, proven fact why is there still argument over the rate? Because, the 'compelling evidence' can be interpreted in several ways. Scientists don't consider maybe it all happened at once 6,000 years ago, and when Christians do people scoff.

“Religious suffering is at one and the same time the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people.”

What the hell is he saying?? Please explain so a dumb person like me can understand!! Thanks

what about if the true believers get together and organise a little lobby for replacing modern language classes with prayers to the paraclete?

jesus gave the gift of tongues to the apostles at pentecost, and followers of the elim creed get to speak french, spanish, russian, and even rasena at almost every prayer meeting.

so how's about it believers. lobby those school boards and tell them how the right kind of devotion will get all the students able to give the homehelp instructions in natural mexican.

knowing a foreign language has to be more use to a christian than some wobbly notions about the fossil record.

I've heard a few comments from the more fundamentalist Christians, that this movie is an attack on Christianity because it defies the word of the bible. Personally I laugh at that!. I think they should rename it to 10,000 B.C.E. So what do Christians on yahoo think of this movie?

After my last question" Does this makes sense?" A lot of you judged me for seeing your beliefs in my perception. Does this make me a bad person? I would give you the shirt off my back and a lot of religious people would think I were Christian just from my actions. So to all you who jugded me, you will witness, you reap what you sow right here on R&S.

I was brought up to plant the garden by the astrological signs in the farmer's almanac; waxing and waning moon, etc. Nobody had a problem with this, although some believed it was effective and some didn't. People with nature-based spiritual beliefs, are you familiar with this? People who want to mock/condemn, go bother somebody else, this question's not for you.

"Proof" is like statistics. In statistics you can skew the results and include or exclude a variety of parameters to show that both ends of a spectrum are completely and totally right given the same data.
Those who demand "proof" that a thing is true are like the statisticians who spin data in a certain way to try to convience us that up is down, the sky is really the inside of a blue whale and that we're all really in some vat of goo and none of this exists anyway.

God never really said HOW he created the moon, so how about this :

The pregnancy of Coatlicue, the maternal Earth deity, made her other children embarrassed, including her oldest daughter, Coyolxauhqui. As she swept the temple, a few hummingbird feathers fell into her bosom. Coatlicue’s fetus, Huitzilopochtli, sprang from her womb in full war armor and killed Coyolxauhqui, along with her 400 brothers and sisters. He cut off her limbs, then tossed her head into the sky where it became the moon, so that his mother would be comforted in seeing her daughter in the sky every night.
