I'm not biased towards either group, I have friends who are in both groups, some more hardcore than others. I find this stuff to interesting, sometimes humorous, but definitely something thought provoking. This should result in some interesting answers I think, that's why I chose to ask it.

I have been asking around and I keep coming to the consensus that religious people are against immigration. I am wondering why is this so or have I just been talking to too few people?

When the Pope issues official statements, there is a hierarchy of authority to his statements. Some statements are made in his capacity as the head of the catholic church. In the highest classification, he is assumed to be speaking as god, and infallible.

Let's just say, tomorrow morning, the pope proclaims the Bible say that "anyone" who is not a catholic is to be shot on sight, and take the land from the Jews, would you do it?

90% of almost every population througout history has believed in whatever God was popular at the time including the modern non-Christian world?

Aren't those ignorant of hsitory doomed to repeat it?

all of the bible and not say "oh this is a symbolic story?" Seems to me a lot of christians cherry pick their way through the bible. I mean if certain stories are symbolic like genesis then there is no original sin and christ got himself nailed up for nothing. You should believe entirely and not cherry pick

Or is it still just a theory based on Evolution timescale? If it is still a theory then why do we always hear things like " This is millions of years old", and not " This is possibly millions of years old based on Evolution time scale"

It was inside the large Catholic Cathedral there. To give more context, it was also in the town where the Modern Day Waldensians have they annual meeting.

What does the statue symbolize? Who was this priest? Whose skull was it?

Jesus is a big as ever in spite of wannabe atheists. The only thing that will kill Jesus is the information of who he was, and who his mother was.
Jesus/Augustus was the adopted son of Julius Caesar. His real mother was Cleopatra vii. His real father was Marc Antony. Not only will secular hiostory prove that, but an understanding of the Bible from the proper perspective proves it. Nothing else means beans. Nice well meaning folks are blinded by the smoke screen of an ancient cult.
I question nice well meaning atheists who claim Jesus/Augustus never existed because they have no where else to go with their simple minds. "Denial" is their weak fortress. Denial, as a defense, is the first sign of skitzo. If anyone thinks that I have not heard their "matter of fact" responses before they are totally in the darkness of their blind mind. "Jesus/Augustus were the adopted heir of Julius Caesar". Babylon the Great has fallen. I did it.
Never underestimate the power of an individual.

What denomination do you belong to? Do you know what your church teaches about the Freemasons? Can you tell me anything about this so called secret organization? Thanks!

...will you feel slightly cheated that you won't be able to say, "I told you so!" to all smug and self-satisfied theists as they wink out of existence forever?

I often hear Christians asking atheists "How do you know there isn't a God? Do you have any proof?"

Doesn't the burden of proof lie with the believer?

For example...let's just say that I claim that I can fly.
Should I ask you to prove that I cannot?
If I say that this avacado I just bought from the store can sing...
should I ask you to prove that it doesn't?
Wouldn't I be the one responsible for backing up my claims with undeniable proof?

Let's say that there was a great historian and explorer who was on the evening news one night claiming something amazing.

He says excitedly that, in his travels around the world, he found a lost underground city that is a place of wonders. It will change the face of history as we know it, alter our lives, and is the most magnificent thing he has ever seen. The thought of this place he found brings him to tears.

Unfortunately, he has no photographs, video, eye witness testimony from his colleagues (he found it by himself), artifacts, or anything else from this city. Some of the people in the audience think that sounds silly and don't believe him.

The real kicker is this: Instead of working to prove that this amazing claim is the truth, he challenges everyone in the audience and everyone watching on television to prove to HIM that his city doesn't exist. If they can't, then of course that means that he is telling the truth.

What would you think of that?

My sister is getting married next year on the beach but the greek priests will not marry anywhere outside the church OR marry her with someone who is NOT greek orthodox. We live in NJ, and at this point we're just trying to find a priest (of any denomination) who speaks Greek (so he can translate to some of the guests) and who is willing to go to the beach. Please help :)

I have been reading a lot about NDE's and OBE's, both the religious/spiritual views as well as the scientific/materialistic view of what they mean and are caused by.

What I wish is for anyone who has had an OBE (or NDE) to share their story. And if they have a reliable way of safely inducing an OBE to share the technique (no drugs please) in as much detail as possible.

Why is Pat Robertson supporting Rudy Giuliani? It's quiet contradictory for someone to say 9/11 happened because of homosexuals and pro-abortionist, then support Giuliani who supports both.
