90% of almost every population througout history has believed in whatever God was popular at the time including the modern non-Christian world?

Aren't those ignorant of hsitory doomed to repeat it?

Steve b - incorrect - Jews and Muslims do not worship the same God as Christians (or each other). Christians say Christ is God; Jews do not, and neither do Muslims.

And the 90% that believe in any God have always been wrong.

Diane - fair point re: Chemistry... let me stew on that. But my point was more about the belief that being in the majority makes you right.

I doubt that statistic, but if they weren't ignorant most of us would have to find a new hobby.

Well, first off, I wouldn't say that. I have no idea what percentage believe in God or gods or whatever - and frankly, I doubt you do, either.

I have the same objection to your "90% of almost every population throughout history" statement.

Next, the number of people who believe in something or disbelieve it has no bearing on its truth value. How many people believe one or more of the 9/11 conspiracy theories?

If your point is that, since a lot of people have believed in different gods throughout history, there is no basis for believing in the Christian god, I would have to disagree. A lot of people believed in phlogiston. Does that mean I should reject chemistry?

Lastly - I do think Santayana was right. I don't think it's applicable in this instance.

Edit: Well, all I can do is repeat myself. The number of people who do or do not believe in something has no bearing on its truth value.

And, your point is? And still 90% believe in God in the US.
And the vast majority believe in the Christian God. And that has been that way for some 200 years and more now. Actually during the seventeen hundreds that number would be more like 98 or 99%.

So thoughout history 90% of the people have been totally right or totally wrong.

Btw, Jews and Muslims believe in the same God, that is, the God Almighty. As do most religions. Calling him the "Christian" God does not change the fact that most people in the US believe in the "God Almighty."

interior the united kingdom and eire human beings do not often reffer to it as creationism except refferencing the yankee idea. There are regrettably some human beings in Britain and eire thick sufficient to trust the international is 6000 years previous or notwithstanding. the reason being the bible says "an afternoon interior the eyes of God is yet one thousand years", and it took God 6 days to make the international, and we are interior the "seventh day" in case you'll, so the international must be 6 x one thousand years previous in case you're taking it litterally. of route what it ability is that factor does no longer impression God, yet some human beings extremely are too moronic to comprehend a metaphor.

Doomed to repeat what? Every human organization in history has had some form of faith. Even strict atheism takes faith because things such as Abiogenesis and the Big Bang have never been recorded. It’s a hard pill to swallow for some to accept they have a faith, but everyone does.

Personally, I don't believe for minute that 90% of the people do believe in god. But a lot of people just follow the crowed and wishful thinking.

The latest statistics (2006) show 82% believing in god.....That doesn't mean they actually practice the religious principles. It simply means that they want to feel superior to everyone. Believing and practicing are two different things.

I don't see much godliness in any of them, frankly.....look at the liar Bush and his band of merry christians.

To a point. However, when they say 90% of people believe in God, they are fooling themselves, the fundamentalist religions are pushing more people to atheism every day.

From some of the questions on here (Your good self not included), I'd guess a lot of them would have trouble understanding what 90% of 100 is.
