I have been asking around and I keep coming to the consensus that religious people are against immigration. I am wondering why is this so or have I just been talking to too few people?

I asked this question because a lot of my friends who are religious are against immigration altogether. I found this strange. I live in the UK. I found this very unnerving and I wanted to find out if this is true. I am glad not everyone thinks like that.

Most immigrants who came to America were Christians. Immigrating is not the problem.

It's ILLEGAL immigration I have a beef with.

That is breaking the law, plain and simple.

I am against Illegal immigration. People who follow the immigration laws I have no problem with, one of my aunts is an immigrant from Scotland and her sister can not immigrate here without several years on a waiting list because the illegal immigrants coming into the country have so screwed up the immigration system that she is left out.

I'm religious but the only thing that I'm against is people coming into our country illegally and not attempting to make their status legal. I'm also against employers taking advantage of illegals.
I'm all for people coming in legally. Legal Immigration is a wonderful thing, it's what got this country started in the first place.

Are you talking about illegal?

Immigrants were the ones who settled this land after departing from the Mayflower. It's because of religious persecution that we enjoy turkey day, so for religious people to be against immigration doesn't seem to make much sense. Good point, though.

This is news to me. Where do you get your statistics?

How can you make such an accusation?
Have you talked to ALL religious people?

I see. You have only talked to a few of your friends in the UK.
Limited group, limited area, etc.

I am not against legal immigration at all.

Most religious people are PRO LEGAL immigration. Religious people are for the most part republicans. Therefore have the personality that people need to earn rewards, (like coming to a different country and living and working.) I am pro people coming here legally. But not breaking the law and abusing our health care/welfare system.

The most religious people would appear to be the immigrants.

I don't know anyone that's against immigration, but many people are against illegal immigration - there is a big difference in the two.

Are they against all immigration, or just illegal immigration?

All too often, those who are against illegal immigration are falsely accused of being against immigration in general.

That's kind of like saying that I'm against ALL drugs, even the legal and pharmaceutical type, just because I'm against marijuana use.

I would say your attitude to immigration depends upon which part of the political spectrum you belong to, not your religious opinion. Personally I am not against immigration, and I am religious.
