Don't you think this is just so circular? Obviously neither side is going to budge so what's the point? Christians are still going to be christians, atheists will still be atheists. Besides, it doesn't seem very likely that either side is going to be converted by someone on yahoo answers.

Either way, the debates that ensue are still pretty entertaining.

Esp. when one christian will say that abortion is justified when its about rape, the other say divorce should be allowed if due to family violence?

How does a christian justify what is right and wrong simply by interpreting the bible according to his own interpretation. Isn't the Church teaching and traditions important?

I know a good deal of Protestant friends who speak in the name of bible but I really do not understand how they could justify what is right or wrong when they to interpret the bible literally.

Does one to gouge out an eye as stated in the bible if this is to cause him to sin over adultery?

I've never heard this until I read it in an answer a couple minutes ago. How is debt a sin? Is some debt okay, and not other debt, or is it all wrong? Is it wrong to get a mortgage? What about school loans?

Sometimes you don't have a choice if you want a decent education. We don't all have Mommy and Daddy's pocketbook paving the way.

Today, for the average Christian, the ultimate reward of having faith is going to Heaven at death. According to N.T. Wright, this view has been popularized, and thus ingrained in the average imagination, by authors such as Dante and artists such as Michelangelo. The problem is, for first century Jews (of the Pharisaic opinion) and mainstream Christians, the true hope was bodily resurrection to immortality on a renewed (or new) Earth. The problem is, the popular view of going to Heaven at death has overlapped the first century hope and threatens, and for many succeeds, to blot out the original hope.

What do you think Christians can do to heighten the awareness of resurrection? Should the intermediate state be at least marginalized as it once was, and perhaps even better, blotted out in favor of resurrection? Perhaps even non-academic Christians can have a role!

Plato and the Gnostics must not win. What do you think we can do to make the original hope the majority hope again?

Ok so this Jehovah Witness teacher came up to me. He said that other branches of Christianity only accept Jesus, but they don't accept God. So they are trying to say that you have to accept both God and Jesus.... I'm confused. Just tell me Christians only, if you have to accept both Jesus and God. Quote me a scripture........ Thanks

Knees don't bow; knees bend.
Moreoever, Jesus is dead already. The only knees bending are the knees of people who have that emotional need, and they had that stuff crammed down their throats in childhood.

"Every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess...."?

Question: You've read that in the Bible, and on what real evidence do you believe it?

I've been to your churches, and I've heard you sing He Lives Within My Heart. Yes, he lives within your imagination -- it is rather sad.

Notice I said some. There are atheists who wish to live and let live and enjoy a peaceful existence, as long as they are not insulted because of their beliefs. But it seems there are some who will not rest until it's against the law to talk about God, or the word God be removed from everything altogether.

You may say the Bible is total pap, but you gotta admit a prophecy is true: that you would give Christians crap or think they're stupid because of their beliefs. It says that Christians would be thought of as strange or openly mocked.

Every negative thing you say, you're falling in line with prophecy. Don't you see that?

Just asking. Have a wonderful day, people!!

My mom always humiliates me infront of people. I feel very hurt as I am 30 years old. She treats me like a child. I do not want to be rude to her, but sometimes, she makes my blood boil, that I shout back at her unintentionally. I hate myself when I do that. I have sinned towards her, my mother, by shouting back. I dont like to do sin, but I dont know what to do as she is always nagging, complaining and grumbling over tiny issues. Any advises?

Really, why do you believe in God. I am not looking for a verse. I am looking for why you truly believe. If you say He touched my heart, tell me how. If you think he did some great feat in your life tell me what and why you know it was God.....

but how can you explain someone who only lived to a ripe old age of 35 years old (as a population) with less than the reported (20,000,000) for hundreds of thousand years? that would mean that #1 there was no city made of anything that would be evidence and #2 these hunter gatherers somehow maintained a perfect population growth percentage for over 800,000-2.0 million years? until recorded history?

Eternal-without beginning or end; lasting forever; always existing (opposed to temporal): eternal life. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/eternal

It is impossible to live an eternal life if we need to be created in the first place so therefoe we do not live eternal lives in heaven (assuming it does exist).

Atheist will say that creationism and school prayer is being crammed down our kids throats. Theist complain that evolution and the favortism of school prayer is being crammed down our kids throats. So how was it when you went to school? Junior and high school experiences only.

I am in my 30s (yep I am old) and creationism was never taught in any of my public classes. Evolution yes. In biology class (loved it and got an A) in high school, not once was religion mentioned, the same was true for my chemistry class. As far as school prayer, we didn't have that. We had a 30 second moment of silence. Whatever you did with that moment was up to you. For the holidays like Christmas carols while in choir.

It seems to me that many people who commit suicide may have been so overcome by whatever emotion it was that lead them to take their life that they may not have actually realized the permanence of what they were doing.

A friend of mine took his own life a couple weeks ago and I am trying to better understand what led him to do so.
