Mithra was a very common religion in Rome during Saul/Paul's life. It is very similar to the story of Jesus that we see in the Bible.

How do you think this influenced Paul?

Do you think that it played a role in the way Paul shaped Christianity?

Jesus said that many would come in his name, but how does one separate fact from fiction when the stories are almost the same?

If it never had been translated, then there never would had been a Protestant Reformation (most likely) and we would all be believing the Pope because we wouldn't be educated enough to understand the Latin.

Do you think that the fall of Adam was part of God's plan? If not why not?

If God creates me knowing that I will deny him and end up in Hell, I can have no other conclusion than to fulfill his knowledge. Whether or not I make the choice, God knew this choice before I was created, so what choice is that really? I have the choice to deny god, that is all, either I didn't have freewill or god isn't omniscient. What about this premise doesn't make sense to many believers?

I was told not to see this movie because of the anti-religious undertones it expresses. I found this to be a little offensive. I mean, when was the last time you heard atheists boycott a movie because of its religious undertones? I don't recall any backlash from interest groups when Narnia came out. Don't people go to the movies for the entertainment value anymore? I will make sure to go and see the movie now.

How is it that so many interpret this to mean that the law remains inviolate down to jots and tittles, then turn around and alter the law way beyond jots and tittles when it comes to their application of the law? For example, they teach tithing, but alter it beyond jots and tittles so as to include tithing on wages, and giving the tithes to a ministry instead of Levites, as well as the widow and fatherless.

Circumcision is in that law also, as well as the requirements regarding sacrifices.

Hypocrisy?

Or just plain blind spiritually?

think this through before answering it.
example: why does some Christians judge people knowing they are not supposed to?
or is it : why do stupid Christians judge people
or is it : Both? <> a Christian is asking it is why I used it for my examples!

Last week some people were noticing that specific religions/ philosophical inclinations each get their own week to get bashed more often than others. I bet there's some kind of psychological reason behind this. Anyhow, is it Islam's turn? Sure seems like it so far today.

This question is not intended to disrespect any religion. Christians believe in God and Muslims believe in Allah. Do both of these religions believe there is a Heaven and if yes, is it the same place?

If some pre-judges you before they meet you or have been induated with negative comments about you from others what is your reaction? Do you have the attitude that, it is their lost if they want to prejudge me? Do you be avoid them? Are you nice and cordial to them hoping that they will see how wrong they are.

To answer my own question: I try to be nice to them. That way they look more like a fool.

it's been determined that the creation of the universe was caused by the collision of two other universes. but what formed those universes? someone had to create those two universes, as well as push them together to collide, right?

sorry, i couldn't resist. i just watched this bbc documentary on m-theory. isn't it amazing how smart some people are. it's even more amazing that they can break down what they know simple enough that even i can understand it... if anyone is interested in it check it out.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant, but someone asked a question about alternative ways to celebrate Christmas, but since she obviously didn't like the advice that she got, she accused everyone of "preaching" to her, or trying to "proselytize" her, or of "making assumptions" about her beliefs (Of course people made "assumptions" -- the question was kind of vague. Duh!). I don't want to embarrass the person, so I won't post the question (you can find it if you must see it for yourself). This is not intended to be a personal attack; just a question about human nature.

If one doesn't like the advice that one gets, so be it, but why accuse other people of bad motives just because they gave an honest, heart felt answer to a vague question? What's up with that?
