If your only reason for being nice is to make a fool of them then you should check your motives, they might be right.
Mother Theresa said. (paraphrased)
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough,
GIVE THE WORLD THE BEST YOU'VE GOT ANYWAY.
you see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God.
IT NEVER WAS BETWEEN YOU AND THEM ANYWAY

Where do people get the idea that by telling the truth a person will be hated?
What?
That makes no sense whatsoever!
If someone doesn't like me, they have that right.
I need to know I am not being a butthead, so I try to be as nice as I possibly can to everyone. Sometimes I fall short of that goal, though, just like every other person does.
If someone bothers me, I do not have to be around them, but it's not like I go out of my way to avoid them.

You could always be kind, considerate, thoughtful, sincenere, honest towards others, even if they think poorly/badly of you, for any reason whatsoever. It's your choice to treat them with respect, while it is their choice to or not to treat you the same way. It is also important to be patient, and not judge them just because they judge you, as they may be wrong, they may not see or hear that they're wrong, but with hope, we should not let that one thing change who or what we are, or even more so, who we wish to be, as our kindness towards others should always be there.

I have been practicing honest , truthful self analysis and self improvement all of my very long life , so yes I care what people think of me . If their appraisal seems true , I'll make corrections in my habits.

The bible points out sin and people don't like to know their sin is out in the open.
I love souls and serve God. That means some will hate me for loving Jesus

UM....actually. youre not really supposed to care....read psalm 139:14...God made you who you are and you are precious, a sentimental value in His eyes. So why worry about it. Instead of thinking about what others think of you, think about Jesus. He said that He will not look in your outward appearance but He will always look at your heart...YOU ARE PRECIOUS IN HIS EYES......dont mind those who offend you.

Not at all. Jesus would have been called "not nice" by those who didn't want to hear the truth spoken.
Anyone who tells the truth, will be hated.

Yes, it bothers me, but I do as you do, I try to be nice to them so they will see that I am not a bad person.
