Notice I said some. There are atheists who wish to live and let live and enjoy a peaceful existence, as long as they are not insulted because of their beliefs. But it seems there are some who will not rest until it's against the law to talk about God, or the word God be removed from everything altogether.

You may say the Bible is total pap, but you gotta admit a prophecy is true: that you would give Christians crap or think they're stupid because of their beliefs. It says that Christians would be thought of as strange or openly mocked.

Every negative thing you say, you're falling in line with prophecy. Don't you see that?

Just asking. Have a wonderful day, people!!

Actually, I just want to live my life not believing in any man-made religion, but most religious zealots just won't leave me the f alone. I'm tired of having to hide the fact that I'm an atheist because religious folks view atheism on the same level of pedophilia. I'm feisty and if you provoke me, I'll figuratively shove my boot down your throat.

Also, I have no problems with people telling me "Merry Christmas" (or Hanukkah or whatever), "God bless", or that they'll pray for me. I realize all of those are meant to be caring and positive, so I take them as that.

Saying that Christians will be mocked is a very, very braod prophecy. Every group is mocked. In the US christians are in the vast majority, making it almost certain that they do the majority of the mocking. Historically (and even today) Christians have also been very disrespectful of the religions of others. Crusades, inquisitions, forced conversions, invasions, wars, persecutions of minority groups, destruction of native cultures and religions, etc. are all a lot worse than mere mocking and all have been done for centuries by Christians. Christianity has controlled the world for hundreds of years. Please don't pretend that Christians are a persecuted minority because a few people say disrespectful things about them on the internet.

And shouldn't you be encouraging the mocking of Christians? As you say, it fulfills a prophecy and may give evidence of the truth of the bible. Instead of telling those who mock Christians to stop, you should be encouraging it, perhaps even joining in yourself (the prophecy doesn't say that the mockers have to be non-christians, does it?)

Personally I won't rest until Christians stop trying to enforce legal discrimination against homosexuals, stop trying to limit the bodily freedom of women, stop trying to get myth taught as science, and generalyl stop trying to get their religion made in to the law of the land. They only deserve to be left alone if they are willing to leave others alone. Have a great day yourself!

do you regard questioning something so central to society as religion wrong; why not put politics and say the weather beyond the limits of discussion. why should someones religious beliefs have an off limits sign hung on them especially when so many theists insist on criticising and patronising people who don't believe exactly the same thing they do. religious belief is being used as a hammer to bang the heads of politicians and policy makers to pervert and distort science, education and government. and as religion has got big bucks and powerful lobby groups expedient and vote hungry politicians listen.
some religious belief deserves mocking as it is totally illogical and has only a tenuous link with reality. what, you want it to go totally unchallenged and unquestioned. i'll agree that plain, unabashed insults are wrong but questioning is not and it seems to that there is a totalitarian seed in the hearts of most theistic belief and democracy will not be safe if it is left unchecked.
as for prophesy, if it wasn't written down after the event then it is usually written in such ambiguous and slippery language that you can make anything out of it that you want to and so often the language is dragged kicking and screaming beyond the edge of credulity.

For the same reason anyone does it. I'm a non theist and I'm fairly certain that If I've belittled anyone here it's atheists and not theists. Since you're more likely to get honest answers from those who you agree with, why not ask Christians why they do the same.

My feeling is that there are people who have a tendency to act like drunken fans of a sports team regardless of their belief or lack of. And if we were talking about liking pie or not there would be people whose first reaction would be to pull their pants down and act stupid.

"But it seems there are some who will not rest until it's against the law to talk about God, or the word God be removed from everything altogether." I'm glad you said 'seems' because it implies that you're not entirely convinced of this.

You obviously don't live in the US where the government and society bends over backward to accommodate religion. You can't possibly make a rational argument in favor of a government showing preference toward any particular religion. A government that is religiously neutral is best for everyone including theists. Because what happens if tomorrow it's not your religion that is the dominant one?

Why do SOME Christians insist on belittling atheists, agnostics, Wiccans, Jews, Buddhist, etc ?

I guess it's part of human nature, and you don't really need prophecy to tell you that.

But in America, the belittling sometimes becomes human rights violations, such as Christian students being allowed to wear crossess, but Jewish students not being allowed to wear Stars of David, and Wiccan students being suspended for wearing pentagrams.

Or a divorce judge telling a divorcing Wiccan couple that they can not expose their own child to their shared faith. (they did not ask the judge to butt into the religious upbringing of their child. Luckily, this decision was shot down about 9 months later.

Or the VA allowing several faith symbols for fallen soldiers, but not allowing the Wiccan pentacle for almost 10 years. Only a lawsuit against the VA changed this.

Or religious right agitators DEMANDING that public school distribute advertising fliers for Christian bible camps, and then screaming bloody murder when Unitarians and Atheist distribute advertisements in the EXACT same manner.

I could live with the usual belittling against non-Christians, such as being immoral, being responsible for the holocaust, etc. but when the belittlers get the government involved to deny civil rights to non-Christians, don't expect a bouquet of flowers, people WILL push back when pushed.

No one is trying to make it against the law to talk about God, we just don't want to be forced to listen to it, or pretend to hold the same beliefs.

Why does anyone insist on belittling people or being rude or taking any negative action on purpose? Because they're ***holes.

This really is not difficult to understand. Some, even MANY, people are ***holes.

And it is not prophecy to expect humans to be human - i.e. ***holes.

Christian prophecies fall into three categories, as far as I can tell:

1) So general that they are bound to come true.
Such as your example.

2) Actually written down after the thing prophecies came true.

3) failed.

I think I've answered this question (or variations thereof) 4 times so far this morning.

I'm here not because the bible is total pap (it is) or because Christians are stupid (not all)... I'm here in hopes that ONE Christian will question the bible and their belief. I'm here because I'm tired of being ruled by those Christians who feel it's their duty to force the rest of this country to follow their beliefs by soliciting the government to pass laws based on their biblical beliefs.

And because we don't believe in god, we don't believe in the devil or heaven or hell or prophecy or any of that, so saying that what I say is just fulfilling prophecy is bunk. I believe in facts, evidence and science which can be proven. Your mythology cannot be proven, either god or Jesus or prophecies or any of that. So I'm not threatened.

And you think YOU'RE persecuted? You have it made in this country. You don't know what persecuted means until you walk in MY steps or in those of the rest of us who are under your thumb.

I only belittle the ones who say silly things like: "Every negative thing you say, you're falling in line with prophecy. Don't you see that?"

If you really believe that, then just accept that we are doing what your God wants us to do, and leave us alone.

No, no, thanks are not necessary.

Have a nice day.
