When it comes to the Bible, I've made my share of stupid statements. It's a very complex book with a lot of history and a wide variety of interpretations, and an uneducated attack on it is just as bad as a creationist who says, "Why are there still monkeys?"

Isn't it better to educate ourselves on the things that we're critiquing, than it is to offer a mindless attack?

...than atheists complaining about being attacked by Christians?

Maybe I'm not judging from a representative sample of questions, but that's the way it seems...

It couldn't possibly be that atheists (and agnostics) more often realize that Christian attacks never seem to have much merit, could it? Maybe the atheists aren't bothered by "attacks" that seem to consist merely of quotes from a millennia-old Middle Eastern mythology book?

Answer quick, before this question gets deleted!

It is my understanding that prayer requests are solicitation and not allowed. But what of a person who makes a prayer OFFER and words it as a question? What about someone saying, "Would you like me to pray for you?" Should that be acceptable?

Curious to see the opinions here. The video points out religious fundamentalism in the Middle East and compares it to the rise of Nazi Germany:

I will reserve my opinion until enough people answer.

As one "Apostle" on this site has claimed, leaving atheism and joining the ranks of theism is as easy as "opening your heart" to God.

One question... how do I do that knowing that gods don't exist, not even the Judeo-Christian god? I can't open my heart to God any more than I can open my heart to Obi-Wan Kenobi or Jack Sparrow... so... what now?

A long time ago, when my father was still in his 20s, he used to work aboard a ship. During that time, the sailors will help to cut each other's hair. My father had one crewmate who wanted to cut his hair but leave his fringe covering his forehead. According to Chinese superstition, the forehead is one of the energy portals and covering it will result in bad luck.

Despite the unusual request, my father did the haircut as he was told. Late at night, there were screams coming up from the deck. My father rushed up to the deck and to his horror, the crewmate's head was split open by a rope!!! He accidentally stepped the brain with his slippers in all the commotion ...the other crewmates told him to throw his slipper to the sea to prevent any bad luck...

After the death, two weird events happened. The next few nights my father had dreams of the dead crewmate visiting him and asking him to find an "ang moh" which means Caucasian in Hokkien. Their superior was a Caucasian by the way. My father never did go look him up, but he checked the birthday of both guys and coincidentally they were a day apart from each other!!! And the crewmate died exactly at midnight!!! What has this mysterious link between this two guys? Looks like we’ll never know… Also, my father had re-checked the ship’s book record and found out that he had recorded everyone’s boarding time, but had forgotten for that of the dead crewmate!!!

Ok well ive sed that i am a Chrisitan, but mostly all my life i havent been acting like it. I think i noe the full story behind the rapture. The believers and followers of God(true ones) will be raptured and everyone will be left behind. Thus comes a time called the tribulation times.this is wear the anti christ takes over the picture. he will pretend to be the Lord and perform miracles and try to decieve you. and there is the mark of the beast which is the 666 chip i believe right? now say i dont get raptured because i havent been acting like a true believer and follower... i have a choice right to take the chip or either get beheaded and follow Jesus right?this is what scares me the most right now. my aunt has informed me that the chip(ID thing if you wil) will be released on may 12 2008 and its official.she sed the rapture may happen any time now.so if i am left behind do i have a chance to go to heaven? To be continued in details...

This story is a horrifying and it tells of a very dangerous trend among teachers to corrupt the very minds they are supposed to nurture. The authorities are at a loss to stop this menace. What steps would yout recommend to stop this despicable act?
Thank you.

While my brother was living at my uncle's house he bought a TV set which was stolen soon after that. Two others were also stolen. So he moved out to his own place which he made sure was safe from theft. He bought another set and two months later, he came home and found it lying on the floor crushed. The TV stand fell too. There was no earth tremor that day. This seems very spooky. Why cant he keep a TV set? and why does it keep happening?

If someone was born by Catholic parents, christened and even had a communion, but wishes as an adult to resign from being a Catholic, does this person need to take any " legal" steps to do this? I heard that just stopping going to church and not believing is not enough, that the person is still on a list as a Catholic.

I do not wish to join any other church.

They have 9 staff.

Staff salaries for 2006: $1,246,855.40

About $ 138, 539.49 each.

Lead Pastor probably makes $250,000 and the others about 100K per year.

How is this aligning with Biblical principles...?

Why do you think so many of us choose to come to the R&S section and debate? I completely agree that this is a section for debate about religion, not for religious people, and that some of us are simply interested in religion, but do you think there might be an element of desperation in it? It is really difficult to argue with religious people, because their beliefs aren't founded in logical debate, and I often find if I try to talk about religion with a religious person, I become increasingly frustrated. Part of the reason I'm here is because I'm surrounded by religion in my day to day life, and I can't reason with it, so I need some kind of vent for my frustration. I find the longer I'm here the more annoyed I become, and yet I stay. Does anyone else have similar experiences?
