...than atheists complaining about being attacked by Christians?

Maybe I'm not judging from a representative sample of questions, but that's the way it seems...

It couldn't possibly be that atheists (and agnostics) more often realize that Christian attacks never seem to have much merit, could it? Maybe the atheists aren't bothered by "attacks" that seem to consist merely of quotes from a millennia-old Middle Eastern mythology book?

Top Contributor: I'm agnostic too. But I tend to sympathize with atheists more than Christians.

bill k: Oh, I'm certainly not arguing that Christians never get attacked. Both sides do a fair amount of that. But atheists just seem to take it better...and not complain so much.

Lucid Freedom: I'm just talking about the cases where Christians actually post a question and complain about being attacked. I seem to see more of those than vice-versa. With regard to answers to questions, it seem to me to be about 50-50. But I'll give you that atheists are probably meaner on average in those cases... o.O

Morgan M: I would argue that the visitors to R&S do not constitute a representative sample of the world's population. In fact, I just saw a question from a Christian claiming that the atheists have "taken over" R&S.

Because they have a desperate need to control others. They will respond and say no, it's atheists that are desperate and try to stop them believing. This is just paranoia as we just respond to them posting attacks against us and their constant requests/demands to read this that or the other extract from the Bible as a way, in their minds, of atheists seeing God is real. God is love and how we should open our hearts to him etc. They also have persecution complexes. They like to feel that they are picked on by athesist who are attempting to prevented them from believing. This is nonsense. This is paranoia. Somebody saying the Bible is made up and God does not exsist is not percecution. Nor is it attempting to stop someone believing. It's called an oppinion which we are entitled to under law. In fact it's most of them, not all, that think we atheists should be prevented from not beiliving and be forced to believe as no one has morals unless they are Christian! Considering all the murders, rapes, incest and everything else that the Bible is about that's a very deluded attitude. Your point at the bottom makes the point brilliantly, answer quick before the question gets deleted. They can't stand free speech and freedom of none believe - then have to control. No matter how many times you tell them that you've read the Bible and still don't believe, in fact the more you read the less you believe in it, they still can't or wont accept that, and they then resort to insults, as if this is going to some how get you to convert to a believe system that is alread based on contoll!

If you look at the Yahoo Answers Suggestion forum, you get a suggestion roughly once a week saying "christians need their own section to stop the attacks by atheists and other non-believers". This will get jumped on by a bunch of other christians saying "so true" etc etc. (in fact any Armenian Christians must be on 24/7 protesting about their persecution - yes, this does make sense, if you read the suggestion board)

I think the reason boils down to - a lot of christians here feel disagreement is a personal attack. Yes, there are people who personally attack others because of their religious positions (atheists, christians and muslims all harbour people guilty of this). But not as much as some christians seem to think.

For instance:

Q: How loving is our God? He is wonderful, don't you agree???
A: According to the Bible, he has killed several million people, which doesn't seem very loving to me.

I know there are people here who will take that as a personal insult against their religion, when it is not intended to be as such, just an opinion on their religion from a non-member.

First, Not To Belittle Your Level Of Intelligence But For The Sake Of Any Other Readers Of This Answer, The Word “Atheist” Simply Means Without Belief In GOD Or Gods. Secondly, It Is Common For Many Of The “More Intellectual Or Scientific Thinking” People To Become Skeptical About The Numerous Discrepancies And Conflicting Teachings Concerning GOD And Jesus Because Unfortunately Anyone Who Can Read And Speak Can Be Considered A Preacher Or Teacher Or Authority Of “The Word” While Many Of Those Same Are Truly Agnostic Teachers Themselves And Their Interpretations Of “The Word“ Frustrate Some Of Those “More Intellectual Or Scientific Thinking“ People. Unfortunately, Some Of These Same “Agnostic Readers Of The Word” Have Led Many People Unto Becoming Agnostic / Atheists. Moreover, About Those Becoming Agnostic, Truly By Definition, Everyone Is Originally Agnostic But These Are Those Who Remain Agnostic. This Really Isn’t A Religion But Rather A Confession Of Their Religious Views Or The View / Philosophy Of Religion. The Word “Agnostic” Simply Means Without Knowledge / Not Knowing (Of Spiritual Truth) And Unfortunately Only Very Few Seem To Obtain Enlightenment. However, Many Atheist Know More About The Scripture Than Most Christians But Because Of Their Not Becoming Enlightened Unto Its’ Truth But Rather Receive It Simply As It Reads. They Become Discouraged, Disgusted And Then Sometimes Adversarial Even Becoming “Militant Atheists“. Now The Term “Militant” Simply Means Someone Who Is Aggressive Or Extremely Active In The Defense Or Support Of Something That Others May Find Unacceptable. The Word Comes From Latin Sources Meaning “To Be A Soldier - In The Military”. Sadly, Some Atheist Think Of Christians As Their Adversary, Even As Idiots That Believe In Fairytales. Many Proclaimed Atheist Make Claims That Christians Are Intolerant And Not Accepting Of Them. However, Their Idea Of Tolerance And Acceptance Is For A Christian Not To Be Offended When Being Enticed With Pure Ignorance And Arrogance, In An Attempt To Engage Them Into A Debate Or Defense And If They Do Reply, In A Negative Manner, Then The Atheist Feels Validated In Their Belief Or Lack Thereof. Some Of These Atheist Really Have No Desire To, Nor Will They Hardly Read Godly Replies With Understanding Or Comprehension. Sadly Many Insincere Atheist Authors Do This, Because They Seek To Belittle Or Destroy Anyone Else’s Faith / Religion. Moreover, The True Reason That Militant Atheists Become Malicious, Venomous, Discourteous Or Offensive And Even Strive To Destroy Anyone Else’s Faith, Is Because They Want To Display Their Portrayed Intellectual Superiority. The Fact That When A Question Is Posed, Even If In Sincerity, Within Only Minutes Many Atheist Or Militant Atheists Respondents Reply With Their Infinite Knowledge And Offer Up Their Wonderful Words Of Wisdom. (Sarcasm) Some People Simply Can Not Comprehend That Your Level Of Intelligence Has Nothing To Do With Your Acceptance Of Good Over Evil Or That Even If They Deny And Oppose Something, Does Not Mean That It Does Not Exist. In Conclusion, The Fact That The Proclaimed Atheists Or Militant Atheists Takes The Time To Log In, And Enter These Types Of Sites / Questions And Answers, Continuously Shows That Their Souls Are Longing For A Truth. --- Respect Is Truly Something That Must Be Earned... Why Are Those Who Preach Tolerance, Are Often The Least Tolerant ? Why Are Those Who Say They Are Religiously Accepting, Often Accept Many Religions, Other Than Christianity ? Why Are Those Who Cry That They Are Reviled And Disrespected, Often The Same That Revile And Disrespect Those Who They Are Accusing ?

Atheists have a thicker skin because they are used to being attacked in the real world. Christians come here and are shell shocked and dumb founded because they thought everyone believed the same as they do.

I agree with you. I just finished asking a question related to this when I saw this question. I've seen multiple questions in the past couple of hours where Christians are doing exactly what you're describing here. And most of the time they aren't being attacked, they're simply being disagreed with. I guess they don't like that too much.

Christians /some / will attack any belief not similar to their own..The moment i Say I'm a medium-I'll get a negative thumbs down-Just b.c they interpret that as a bad thing-though in my life, it's been a blessing of being able to talk to Jesus and God and as a child I doubt God would leave me seeing anything bad. :)
Anything someone doesnt understand they attack...whether it be a wolf 100 years ago or Atheists now..

Yes, Christians complain more about being attacked than atheists, because their dodgy belief system gets shook up, and they dont like it. I mean, if YOU believed in some god that practiced genocide regularly during biblical times, yet was supposed to be the progenitor of peace and love, you would perhaps be defensive about it too :)

Perhaps they arent as "attacked"? I can tell you that there are a few burn in hellers on here. But overall, I see hurling insults in huge amounts from the atheists or other beliefs much much more than Christians damning people to hell. And of course you dont see Christians calling atheist delusional idiots, morons, in need of meds, etc either. I am shocked every time I see a question like this. As if it isnt crystal.

I've never been attacked by an atheist. If you don't believe what I believe how can you attack me? I feel right and so do you. It's a stalemate and moot. Good luck with this one, it's antagonistic and silly for no good reason.

Because Christians like to pretend they're persecuted, attacked, and discriminated against whever reality gets a little too "real" for them.
