this was stated by a christian earlier

"m chrtistan we dont think scientist r evil we kno god made cures for a reason but the evolution theroy is wut we dont lyk
( I MEEN HOW IN DA HELL CAN WE COME FROM A MONKEY)"

this is what wikipedia says:
Apes are the members of the Hominoidea superfamily of primates, which includes humans. Under the current classification system there are two families of hominoids:

* the family Hylobatidae consists of 4 genera and 13 species of gibbons, including the Lar Gibbon and the Siamang, collectively known as the "lesser apes"
* the family Hominidae consisting of orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, and humans,[1][2] collectively known as the "great apes".

A few other primates, such as the Barbary Ape, have the word "ape" in their common names, but they are not regarded as true apes by most authorities.

Except for gorillas and most humans, all true apes are agile climbers of trees.

I like rev kev's arguing skills a lot, even though i don't completely agree with you. thank you for not being rude mr. kev! A lot of the answers were almost desturbing. im not trying to force anything on anyone, but I dont understand why everyone feels so strongly about this. I was just wondering, and i get a bunch of crap about people saying, "i dont believe in lies" i was just wondering what your reasons were, and a lot of what i got was stuff offending me. so please, don't be rude. Santa clause was actually based on truth, just like any legendary character. dragons were probably dinosaurs, the loch ness monster was probably the last of an aquatic species, but we can never know for sure. Also, what about the fossils of small sea creatures on a mountain? Please, give me some solid arguments like mr. kevs please! and no rudeness!!

I hope you all have a great one!

I have only been on Y!A for a short time, and I came to the R&S boards because I am Christian, but I do have a lot of open questions on faith, etc. I'm not one to accept others interpretation on things important to me, so I try to look for the answers myself. What totally shocked me was how many atheist are here on the R&S section. I still struggle with comprehending why someone would waste time discussing something they don't believe in. The only conclusion I can come to is that they fear that they might be wrong. It is common to attack, degrade, and belittle something that you don't understand and are afraid of, and I believe that is what is happening here. I'm not saying you don't understand religion, that is man made and can easily be understood and seen to have many flaws. But no one can really understand God, and that is kind of scary.

So could it be that atheist on this section are just scared and looking for justification? To reinforce your un-belief?

Hello, all:

In several answers to different questions about Halloween, I've seen references to how the Celts worshipped "Samhain, Lord of the Dead."

I'm amazed that lie is still being spread. THERE WAS NO GOD CALLED SAMHAIN, LORD OF THE DEAD. The autumn festival is called Samhain (pronounced SOW-in), and the name means "summer's end".

Here's a link with genuine historical information:

Why do people persist in clinging to information that is just plain wrong? And fellow Wiccans and Pagans, does it annoy you too when you see the same old tired misinformation being trotted out year after year? Do you try to educate people? Or do you simply not bother?

This is one of my favorite passages in all of scripture. It means a lot to me, but what does it mean to you?

Ether 12: 11 Wherefore, by faith was the law of Moses given. But in the gift of his Son hath God prepared a more excellent way; and it is by faith that it hath been fulfilled.
12 For if there be no faith among the children of men God can do no miracle among them; wherefore, he showed not himself until after their faith.
13 Behold, it was the faith of Alma and Amulek that caused the prison to tumble to the earth.
14 Behold, it was the faith of Nephi and Lehi that wrought the change upon the Lamanites, that they were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost.
15 Behold, it was the faith of Ammon and his brethren which wrought so great a miracle among the Lamanites.
16 Yea, and even all they who wrought miracles wrought them by faith, even those who were before Christ and also those who were after.

It really annoys me when religious fundamentalists (usually christian) find a gap in a theory and go 'GOD DID IT!' without any explanation? Like it isn't ok to just say 'I don't know, I'll try and find out', instead God has to fill the gap that further study will probably find a scientific answer for, causing the religious community to be proven wrong once again?

I mean it's going on with the 'evolution/intelligent design' thing right now. Someone has mananged to fabricate a hole or two in the evolution theory and before you know it BAM! God has been shoved down your throat once again.

Why can't these people learn that the proper default stance on a scientific theory is 'unknown', not 'God'?

Any time a person would bow before an angel, the angel would always say not to worship them. Unless, of course, that was the Angel of the LORD.

Now then, how is bowing not considered worship? How is praying not considered worship?

Worship or "veneration"... a Rose by any other name...

The men in the following verses had works and yet were not saved. They obviously believed in Jesus as they say they did these works in His name. Yet He told them to depart from Him. Is it possible that Jesus sent them away because they trusted in their works and not in Him? If works can save you why weren't they saved?

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
