This is one of my favorite passages in all of scripture. It means a lot to me, but what does it mean to you?

Ether 12: 11 Wherefore, by faith was the law of Moses given. But in the gift of his Son hath God prepared a more excellent way; and it is by faith that it hath been fulfilled.
12 For if there be no faith among the children of men God can do no miracle among them; wherefore, he showed not himself until after their faith.
13 Behold, it was the faith of Alma and Amulek that caused the prison to tumble to the earth.
14 Behold, it was the faith of Nephi and Lehi that wrought the change upon the Lamanites, that they were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost.
15 Behold, it was the faith of Ammon and his brethren which wrought so great a miracle among the Lamanites.
16 Yea, and even all they who wrought miracles wrought them by faith, even those who were before Christ and also those who were after.

17 And it was by faith that the three disciples obtained a promise that they should not taste of death; and they obtained not the promise until after their faith.
18 And neither at any time hath any wrought miracles until after their faith; wherefore they first believed in the Son of God.

Wow -- it really makes one want to rediscover faith and seek to unfold the power vested there. Faith is, after all, the first principle of the gospel of Christ. All else is predicated upon it. One of my favorite allegories right now with how a boy with perfect faith knelt to pray about which of all the churches he should join? which church was truly the church of Jesus Christ? Joseph never expected the simple answer he received to become such a marvelous work and a wonder. The answer started so small [as Alma would say, as a mustard seed] and eventually became the restoration of the fullness of Christ's gospel and the beginning of the last dispensation wherein all would be restored.
The challenge then, to me, becomes: how do I develop this perfect faith? Obviously, we could continue to quote Alma here about having the desire, but I think it becomes more personal too. We each have been gifted with divine attributes and will gain faith and knowledge in our own ways. It is not given to all to command a mountain to remove itself and it occur. These instances of faith in the lives of great men, these teachers and prophets, give us a clue -- and a key: that our faith will be manifest in different manners. And our lives can be blessed with similar manifestations of miracles when we remember Nephi's motto : I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded. They will happen throughout our lives and in times and places decreed by the Lord. I have been witness to the Lord's miracles and presence within my own life -- and inevitably, it has been after a trial of my faith, when I have humbled myself and reaffirmed that my Savior is the way -- the only way by which I may return to our Father in Heaven.
Thanks so much for the verse -- you choose them beautifully, but let us know if you need a break now and then. You don't need to do this alone.

I don't believe in the Book of Mormon, so to be honest, it doesn't do much for me. I do have a question though.

Ether 12:11 What is the gift of Moses' son and what excellent way is that? It sounds like it's referring to Jesus, but He's not a descendant of Moses. I guess I'm confused on that one.

I do agree that faith is important. I like Hebrews 11.

I take it that is not from a Gideon bible.
Or a bible that most of us have in our houses.
So
It means nothing to me.
Gee why not try reading the one that was established by 2 or 3 or even 12 Witnesses???

Then read yours after that. See if it lines up with the word of God! Have a nice day.

These verses tell me that without faith God can not work in my life. I need Faith in order for Him to move on my behalf. I agree with Jeanette that through faith ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH GOD!
