Lol, I have a shirt that reads
"If there is no god, then who pops up the next Kleenex?"
(Yes, it does annoy me.)

Of course it's annoying, but it isn't going to go away. Fundies know (but will never admit) the flaws in their own religion and when they're boxed into a corner they _know_ they can't get out of, they just play the "God did it!" card because it is irrefutable. You can argue with them, but they'll claim that we aren't supposed to know God's ways. The reason they can't admit an "unknown" is because they cannot admit they might be wrong because they fear God may send his wrath upon them if they have any doubts.
This stems from the natural flaws all religions that fear God instead of loving Him have.

The "God of the Gaps" has been annoying me for decades. What disturbs me most, are people whose knowledge of reality is mostly all gaps -- they're invariable the most vociferous fundamentalists. ...so persistently ignorant, they lack the intellectual tools to appreciate how very little they actually understand. I know I should feel pity or compassion for such people, but they're often so obnoxious I can barely control my anger.

"default stance on a scientific theory is 'unknown',"
Doesn't a theory attempt to explain the unknown.
" find a gap in a theory "
If a theory has no gaps it would probably be fact. Every time I turn around someone is trying to cram their godlessness down our throats.

It's just what they believe. When someone grows up with that much belief, faith, and experience with God, it doesn't matter what scientists think. It is their relationship with god that made them believe, not their doubt in evolution.
rhsaunders: evolution is not and never will be a proven fact. No body was there to wittness it, therefore it is and always will be a theory
and by the way, I believe in the theory of evolution.

It does indeed. But there are no holes in the theory of evolution, as it is now a proven fact. Any purported hole is therefore an incorrect observation or incorrect reasoning.

christians are told to believe this is the only way and everyone should be of this religion, which is not correct in any way shape or form, no one religion suits everybody, that would be like saying everyone must look the same.

There are some things we are not meant to understand.
One of those things is 'how the mind of a Christian works'.
Save yourself the headache and forget about them, yes it does piss me off too, but hay, waddya do.

If only Jesus had said, "Go thou and think outside the box" maybe we would have what is almost unheard of now - LATERAL THINKING CHRISTIANS. Wow, what a difference it would make!!!

If they can't describe God with any definitive characteristics and cannot explain how God did the thing they ascribe to him, they might as well be saying "I don't know."

They'll never learn that...and yes, it annoys me too. It's better to say, "We'll figure it out, but I think God did it," than to say, "God did it and that's that!" like a toddler....but, oh well...I somehow doubt we'll ever get to them...
