Augustine an apostate? Never heard that one before.

The person above me is right, except that Tertullian became a heretic in the eyes of the Church not an apostate. Apostasy is renouncing your Christian faith completely. It's different from heresy.

There were two called Augustine:
1. Augustin bishop of Hippo in North Africa who was the author of many very influential works in Latin. He lived in the forth century AD. He converted to Catholicism from the religion of Mani. Mani was an Arsacid Persian nobleman who claimed divine revelation in 242 AD. I wonder how many of Augustine's works were influenced by Manichaeism? It would be interesting to know.
2. Augustine bishop of Canterbury was sent by the bishop of Rome to convert the English to Catholicism in AD 597.
Tertullian was a major Christian Latin author of the late second century AD. In his later life, I think he became a Montanist.
It is a strange habit to call people saints. Personally, I think it is what God thinks of you that really counts.

NO. Certainly not!! He debated and defeated Apostates his entire life. He is not considered a Saint in the East...but that's because his arguments were used in bringing the filioque into the Creed...

The EAST may consider him to be so...but we in the West certainly honor his contributions.

His De Trinitas is the best treatise on the Holy Trinity I have ever read.
