Do you mean control the populace? The general public?

Because Catholics ain't controlling no population without birth control - all popping out 8, 10, 15 kids.

Not that simple. The Catholic Church arose in a power vacuum created by the fall of the Roman Empire. It's hierarchy took over the power of the Roman aristocracy. So, in a sense it took over the governing function of a system that was already largely in place at the time.

But it came together organically, meaning that nobody drew up the blueprints of what the Catholic Church would eventually become. What started as a small Jewish sect gradually became the Catholic Church through historical circumstance and a natural evolution of events.

The Catholic Church is the result of a blend of several 'pagan' religions.
In most of the emerging Catholic countries, government is allied with the church to control the population.
However, Catholicism is a Christ based religion, therefore its members can learn directly from its founder, Jesus, and remove the pagan traditions and the government manipulation from their choices.
Yes, we will respect the government and pay our taxes (Jesus did it, why not us) but we'll pursue the full establishment of God's kingdom on this earth. I haven't found an effective form of government that keep society functioning peacefully and in safety.

You could use the same (fallacious) argument against ANY religion. Why do you single out the Catholic Church?

Let's not ignore the fact there are more secular gubernatorial organizations "controling" the population. Again, why single out the Catholic Church?

the catholic church is very controlling, in the old days the church ruled the roost, thats why priest's never could marry, they were afraid, if a divorce occured, the wife would take away the masive amount of land the church owned, and yes it is run like a govt. I stopped going as soon as I could go to church alone, we hung out at a hamburger joint til the services were over, that was back in the early 60's, and thats why we always went to the noon service ha ha ha ha, sorry but to me it was a voodoo religion, and always about money

No, it was created as a means to gain power and money. In order to do that, it must control the population of the lands it conquers. It did this through fear, murder, torture, and forced conversions, all over the world.

Then Protestantism was formed, and they took up where Catholicism had left off. Same story, different day.

It's never been about anything except power and money. Control is the tool by which those things are attained.

Now you can see the same thing happening with Islam. It's all the same reasons.

Religion controlled the government and the people at that point in time. What do you think Luther's 95 theses were about?! He was sick of the Catholic church twisting religion to control the population.

when you state "Is it true?" where is the source you're getting this from as it seems it stems from something you've read? If you just mean to ask "Is the Catholic Church created to control the population" then the answer is no.

Catholics do not believe in birth control methods... so why would they create a church to control the population. I know a family that has 13 kids because they don't believe in birth control.

Absolutely!, catholic churches pop up everywhere to tell people they must do only good things otherwise they will go to hell etc, thing is they are the only ones who believe in it, they are brainwashed at school and told this is what happends and are not free to choose because this is the only religion at school, it takes children often into being teenagers to realise there are other religions that may suit their beliefs and should not be condemned for changing their religion.
