Something as the Bible couldn't possibly be made up. The human mind isn't capable of creating something so beyond you know. People can waste their time doubting, but time spent doubting is time doubting. So why do you or why don't you believe in God?

Although the universe doesn't think and doesn't care...maybe a reality like that is just too cold and lonely for some...

so, i'm married, 20, haven't gone to college, and excel in linguistics, music performance, and Jesus. my husband is in the military and wants to get stationed elsewhere than lovely suburban Virginia Beach. i however want to stay until God tells me what He wants me to do for His kingdom (this must sound very odd for someone who doesn't know anything about Christianity...oops. e-mail me if you have questions). Anyway, some of my personal qualities include generosity, exuberance, fire, poise, energy (lots of that here), a need to help others, and charisma.
any ideas?

What a neat idea, I'd like to share this with you.

And they actually write a book about what God wants and thinks and then they apply that book to other people's lives?

Except they don't KNOW what God wants or thinks because that book is filled with fallacies, scientific misconceptions and poor morality.

If God exists, that isn't his book.

Doesn't that tick you off just a little tiny bit?

Think about it. Let's say you're the most upstanding, bible-abiding Christian around (as an example). You should have much more to worry in your life than an atheist or agnostic.

You already base your life around the idea that there is some higher power out there that judges you. And the bible is so full of holes that every Christian I have ever had a discussion with has to use the idea of faith to defend their belief in it.

Well, when all you have is faith with nothing concrete to back it up, then you have no more of a "correct" position than a Muslim, or Jew, or Hindu, or Buddhist, or Shintoist, or pastafarian (arrrr!).

So if you still cling to a belief in a Judgemental god, then how do you know that you picked the right belief system? According to your own dogma, if you're wrong, then there's something pretty crappy waiting for you. Right? Shouldn't you be pretty worried about that?

Does "faith" mean the same thing when one refers to "religious faith" as when one refers to "faith in someone's abilities" or does it mean something different?

if you look up the name JEHOVAH in the catholic encyclopeda, the jewish encyclopedia, and any other ecyclopedia you will find that in the original hebrew manuscripts of the bible gods name, JEHOVAH, was found in the bible nearly 7000 times but was replaced with many titles such as god, lord, or almighty. why then do people continue to make up explanations that demote the name of god??

I know that, according to Christian doctrine, ONLY the blood of Christ could forgive us of our sins, there was no other way, God had to have his son killed to forgive us, God is all powerful BUT only blood could wash sins.
So...my problem is, how do I get over my fears of blood?
The thought of blood makes me sick, any suggestions?

We are going backwards..its not a race of survival against but with each other, ancient philosophy like survival of the fittest, or the laws of the jungle that applies to animal behavior does not fit true human existence, human behavior is twisted misalligned at the very least..please open your minds..seek complete understanding of what existing means and why, religious concepts do not seem to be correct.even the teachers of various phillosophies cant seem to answer the age old questions,no god really shows they exist except in many believing minds, some claim creation is the evidence of gods existence, let us research and seek to end confusion and find our destiny, I seek knowledge..try to open my mind and learn how to fully use it, many cant exist without medication for the mind and behavior in most developed nations, the closest to being a written manual on the self is the Tao I Ching but few are aware of its existence, also the bible in some ways, a lot is missing..HELP!!!!!.

I can understand someone saying it isn't pleasant, but why should it be considered a sin, or even a bad character trait? When did it become an indictment to think highly of oneself? If one has remarkable qualities, isn't this the correct response?

Humility never wins any awards.
