A covenant community can be a city or a subdivision who have set certain standards for their area. It can be as mundane as having a rule that no one will fence their yard, to saying that all lawns must be mowed once a week during the grass growing season.

It can be of a religious nature, upholding certain standards of behavior or dress for the neighborhood. The covenant is spelled out making it known to any new residents, what is expected of them.
