Why is it that people that aren't christian tend to watch our every move just waiting for us to do something wrong or sin? Then totally going crazy and judging us for it? Why don't people understand that just because we are christians doesn't mean that we don't mess up, don't sin (every one tries not to), and we don't have struggles and problems of our own just as much as they do and then thinks we are hypocrits when this stuff happens?

Why is the Buddha almost always depicted as being extremely overweight?

His teachings talked about moderation and selflessness; about following the middle way. of not over indulging but not starving either. Historical records mention his constant fasting and malnutrition. (the period before his enlightenment)

Why then, would he be fat?

NO, its not because he's the 'happy' Buddha. Thats not it. The man reached Nirvana, of course he's 'happy'. That doesnt mean that he'd completely stray from his own philosophy.

Pray don't find fault with the man who limps
Or stumbles along the road,
Unless you have worn the shoes that he wears,
Or struggled beneath his load.
There may be tacks in the shoes that hurt,
Though hidden away from view;
Or burdens he bears placed on your back
Might cause you to stumble too.
Don't sneer at the man who's down today
Unless you have felt the blow
That cause his fall, or felt the shame
That only the fallen know.
You may be strong but yet the blow
That was his, if dealt to you
In the selfsame way, or at the selfsame time,
Might cause you to stagger, too.
Don't be too harsh with the man who sins,
Or pelt him with words or stones,
Unless you are sure--yea, doubly sure,
That you have not sins of your own.
For you know, perhaps, if the tempter's voice
Should whisper as soft to you
As it did to him when he went astray
It would cause you to falter, too.

I need to be forgiven, Lord
So many times a day
So often do I slip and fall
Be merciful, I pray!
And help me not be critical
When other's faults I see;
For so many times, my Lord,
The same faults are in me.

feel the need to try expose that evolution is a grand delusion perpetrated upon society by the godless, despite the fact that 99% of scientist agree that evolution almost certainly is true

It is quite obvious that those who deny that evolutionary biology is earnest inquiry are those who have decided among themselves that the idea that man could have been descended from ape/monkey ancestory is absolutely irreconcilable with a christian god who was to have directly created humans.
Do you have enough faith in god to say that you would believe in god even if evolution was to be proven absolutely real in the future?
I'm sure many of you don't.
In the end it just goes to prove the point, which is that your attack on evolution is, above all other reasons, because you feel that the implications concerning evolution would necessarily mean that god wasn't real.
it is you who are insincere and lack earnestness. You can' t depend on honest answers from dependant hands.

Hey, let's just all start giving each other the thumbs up on all of our answers and show what can happen when people are on one accord. Anybody think that's a good idea? You know they do it to us in the opposite, just give us thumbs down because we have better developed consciousness to accept a reality we can't touch or see.

give money to a homeless person or a panhandler on the street? How do you feel or think about these peoples? Do you think that perhaps they are quite capable of helping themselves? Do you believe that their circumstances are entirely their own fault and they deserve everything that happens to them? How would you help out a street person if you ever meet up with one who asks for your help?

Ok here's the thing. I was raised in the mormon religion and my whole family revolves completely around the church. I've recently started allowing myself to address the doubts that have been in my mind for ages, and in the last 6 months, i have found i no longer believe the church is true. I've been doing a TON of research on the foundation of the religion, and looking into the deeper beliefs, and i've found so many lies and so much dirt that's just been covered up. I dont know how i missed it before. It just goes to show i didnt even know my own religion.

I want to tell my parents that i no longer want to take part in THEIR beliefs, and i have plenty of evidence to support MY unbelief, so i'm not worried about not having reason. The problem is that no matter what i say, i'm not sure they'll take me seriously or respect my wishes (not to have to attend church or take part in their "rituals" anymore). I'm only 15, and sometimes it's hard for them to think of me as any more than a...

I am an Atheist as you should gather by my name. I am a terribly unattractive, have a small pen...(you know),no muscles, and I'm terribly poor ha ha ha now time to make fun of me right? uh oh...wait a sec...the Bible says love thy neighbor right? So indeed you shouldn't but you will. I was very humble in saying all that right? Humility is a virtue...in practice than I'm closer to God than you! Am I right? am I wrong? am I confusing?

I was inspired by crystallinectar for this.

Christians...

If God took away all the people who would never believe, he would be left with those who do/would believe, right? And they have free will and are exercising it?

Why would God not create a world of people who would all come to believe in him, or a world in which the only experiences are ones that would encourage people to believe? Free will would still exist for the believers, right? They COULD reject God, but they wouldn't, and God would know this.

So then... why would God ever knowingly make someone who would not choose to believe? Why would he create someone only to throw that person into eternal suffering? This is not a restriction on free will, this is only allowing certain beings to exist. If you don't accept that this is still free will, consider the following: God could've created other beings, including ones smarter/wiser than humans. By not doing so, he did not take away the free will of the ones he created.

So many people find it impossible to believe that there really is an Almighty God, our Creator, but how then can they so willingly believe in things like astrology and horoscopes, talking to the dead, and evolving from monkeys? Doesn't make any sense to me!!! What do you think?
