Honestly, do we really need all the remarks like "Your religion is dumb and illogical," "Maybe so, but you're going to burn in Hell!" "Only a brainwashed loon would believe that," "Everyone is going to burn except for me and my religious cohorts!" and so on?

Seriously, you only get one life. Do you really want to waste it being mad at everyone over religion? I don't.

Peace out.

I was told it can be done by anyone if you practice it. I do not find scripture to support this. All I find says it has to be interpreted.

I believe in "good-ness" and its opposite "evil". I can see that. I can't see anything that's not visible...like (a)"god"(s). I also believe that a person can be "good" without believing in any "gods".

Seems that most people who do claim to believe in gods are usually that way because of fear...like you'll go to hell if you don't believe.

For instance, look at the question about the atheists worst nightmare. Obviously, this is in reference to something. Just because YOU don't know what it is referencing doesn't mean the question is stupid (or "dupid," as one person deemed it). Why can people not just think "Oh. This is a question I do not understand, so I will not answer it"?

Did Paul and his posse get tired of killing christians, and decide it would be easier to kill their spiritual path instead? Is that why he made up all of that stuff in the new testament?

Seems one common feature of religions is that they say we should somehow improve ourselves--to be more loving, more appreciative of life, of God, to pray more, to do more good works, to be more self-accepting (!).
Are there any that say, "You're fine, just the way you are."
I'm ready to stop trying to change. It doesn't work anyway.

In many countries people are free to believe in no religion. For that they will answer only to whatever God or Gods there may be, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for their God. Without this caveat there is no freewill and no freedom. There is only government tyranny and religious tyranny. Tyranny only serves those who profit by tyranny--and surely doesn't serve any god that is truly a God..

In the first chapter of Matthew and the third of Luke, we have family histories for Jesus.

To be methodical, we must go verse by verse, pick a logical starting point, and deal with the fact that one reads forward in time (Matthew) while the other traces backwards.

I think it makes most sense to start at the focal point of Jesus' parents...

Careful reading of Matt 1:16 indicates that the Matthew list is intended to be through Joseph's family descent. The Jews, not believing Jesus was born without assistance of a human father, would look to this list as an indication of his legitimacy at birth. The implication is that the other list is of Mary's family line, but Luke 3:23 does not actually state this, again referring to Joseph. There are no other Bible verses that state the parentage of either Joseph or Mary, nor are the grandfathers (Jacob and Heli) mentioned anywhere else.

Even a casual glance shows the accounts to be highly different. Are they wrong?

At Psalm 74:13, 14, God is said to be breaking the heads of the sea serpent and feeding the meat to the people. Wording varies from translation to translation, but the essence is there. Leviathan, sea serpent, sea monster... They are mentioned at Job 26:13 and Psalm 104 as well.

Usually, Christians will react to the description of the sea monster as being the issue... Did such a beast exist? Maybe multiple creatures account for multiple heads? But it's not just about whether there ever existed such a creature...

The substance of this is a picture of the deity battling the many-headed sea monster, which parallels the account of the god Marduk doing the same thing. There's no Hebrew religion - related reason why Jehovah/Yahweh would be battling sea creatures. It seems to be evidence of infiltration of the mythology of other societies into the text of the Bible.

I am sometimes confused about what to believe, I have conflicting thoughts about things. I know that there is proof of dinosaurs and I believe that...but where is it in the Bible. I believe that the world is older then what the bible suggests....but I also believe God created it.
I also know that evolution exists, there were animals that evolved into long necked Giraffes so that they could eat the leaves that were higher up...but how did that first organism come to be?
How did that first organism evolve into dinosaurs and cats and ALL that we have today?
Why did only one animal evolve into a being like us? That can do the things that we do? Does that make sense to others?
How can there not have been a designer?
Could God have created the Dinosaur and then something happened that caused the Ice Age or whatever made then extinct...and then after time God made Man, but didn't include it in the bible because at that time He did not feel the people would understand?
