The story of Onan is often used to demonstrate that masturbation is a sin. However, the tale in Genesis 38:1-10 has absolutely nothing to do with masturbation.

Here's how it goes: God commanded Onan to "knock up" his dead brother's wife. Onan went along with God's wishes and had sex with her. But at the last minute, he had second thoughts and pulled out early, "spilling his seed upon the ground." For this act of disobedience, God killed him.

So the general rule is, when you're having sex with your sister-in-law, don't stop for nothing. God doesn't like that.

There is no prohibition against masturbation in the Bible.

The story of Onan Genesis 38:9. But it had nothing to do with masturbation, it was to do with him having sex with his wife and then spilling the semen outside on the ground instead of allowing her to have a child. It was the evil which was in his heart. Read the story. Now masturbation, they say has to do with lust in your mind. Like thinking of another woman/man while performing the act. I personally, do not have anything much about it, I am trying to gather information.

The Bible is silent on masturbation itself. However, the Bible does address the thought life and what we view.

Job 31:1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

Matt. 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
Matt. 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

If you can masturbate and keep your sexual integrity, even in your heart, then there's not much that anyone else can say about it. But use common sense as well when it comes to relationship etc...
Good luck!

Depends on your religion I think. I'm Catholic, so this is what I believe which is in line with the doctrines of my church:

By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church (Catholic Church), in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."138 "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose." For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects' moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.

As Lutherans comprehend it, the Bible does no longer handle the project of masturbation immediately. It does condemn the immoral suggestions and desires that one frequently friends with masturbation (Matthew 5:27-29; Ephesians 5:3-4; I Thessalonians 4:3-5; II Timothy 2:22). Going to the internet to seem at porn and arouse your self isn't turning from sin, yet fairly inviting it into your lifestyles. God's be conscious additionally says that we ought to continuously do all issues to the dignity of God ( I Corinthians 10:31). "Solo intercourse" (vehicle eroticism) by definition looks to run in conflict with God's layout at creation in making human beings lady and male (Genesis 2:20-25). One additionally wonders how one honors God together with her or his physique by masturbation (I Corinthians 6:12-20). We Lutherans comprehend that masturbation has develop right into a consumer-friendly way for many secular therapists to signify as a manner for tension alleviation. perchance all of it is going back to Freud and his overt tension upon sexual issues. Is there no better thank you to end the alleviation of tension? Are you doing it to alleviate tension? if so, perchance you could earnings from extra workout. perhaps you need to get a actual examine up from a surgeon. If the surgeon approves an workout habitual, perhaps you need to connect interior the cautioned workout software, or get another friends or pals to connect in -- at a well being center, perchance. I don' t think of it somewhat is a threat to stumble upon a male or a woman who's masturbating who's additionally no longer lusting. maximum are utilising some sort of pornography in connection with their masturbation. Masturbation has by no potential been in basic terms a actual act. however the temptation that accompanies masturbation is that one turns into obsessively in contact to the element at which one can not administration oneself. the supply of pornography makes the obsession plenty much less difficult. Lust is a desire to sin it somewhat is contemporary in our suggestions approximately others -- approximately previous fanatics, approximately contemporary pals, approximately celebrities, and so on. Lust is a sin.

The Bible never specifically mentions masturbation or states whether masturbation is a sin. There is no question, however, as to whether the actions that lead to masturbation are sinful. Masturbation is the end result of lustful thoughts, sexual stimulation, and/or pornographic images. It is these problems that need to be dealt with. If the sins of lust and pornography are forsaken and overcome - the problem of masturbation will become a non-issue.

The Bible tells us to avoid even the appearance of sexual immorality (Ephesians 5:3). I do not see how masturbating can pass that particular test. Sometimes a good test for whether something is a sin or not is whether you would be proud to tell others what you had just done. If it is something you would be embarrassed or ashamed about if others found out, it is very likely that it is a sin. Another good test is to determine whether we can honestly, in good conscience, ask God to bless and use the particular activity for His own good purposes. I do not think masturbation qualifies as something we can be "proud" of or can genuinely thank God for.

The Bible teaches us, "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). If there is room for doubt as to whether it pleases God, then it is best to give it up. There is definitely room for doubt in regards to masturbation. "For whatsoever is not of faith is sin" (Romans 14:23). I do not see how, according to the Bible, masturbation could be considered glorifying to God. Further, we need to remember that our bodies, as well as our souls, have been redeemed and belong to God. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). This great truth should have a real bearing on what we do and where we go with our bodies. So, in light of these principles, I would definitely have to say that masturbation is a sin according to the Bible. I do not believe that masturbation is pleasing to God, avoids the appearance of immorality, or passes the test of God having ownership over our bodies.

The sin of Onan was not masturbation. He was having sex with his brother's widow, and pulled out before he expelled his semen (it was custom at the time for men to father their brothers' children if they had died before an heir was conceived). His sin was dishonoring his brother and pulling out.

I don't consider masturbation to be a sin. Heck, I consider it to be a sacrament, but I'm a dirty pagan. :D

Dude how can something that doesn't hurt anybody else be a sin. Use common sense. Like pretty much everything else in life, too much of it can be bad. An occasional j.o. every once in a blue is fine and actually helps relieve stress.

I don't believe the Bible speaks clearly on this. If you are denying your spouse then perhaps it could be an issue. Also consider Romans 14:14. But I don't think it is specifically a sin.

Here is what you have to ask yourself. What are you thinking about while doing that? Odds are you are lusting after someone. And that is a sin. The bible says that when you lust it is the same as doing it. If you can take care of business while thinking about stocks or cookies then maybe that is okay...But it does not work that way. The mind plays the image that we use to get all fired up. It is what is behind the action that is the problem. God bless you.
