The sermon on the mount - Jesus said that those on the right of the father will be welcome into heaven because "when i was hungry...you fed me...i needed clothes...you clothed me"...i mean if some christians believe that all we have to do is believe in jesus than they are more or less picking and choosing what they like from the bible - and NO-ONE can do that with the word of god. Personally i do NOT believe that god will use the same criteria to judge us all...he knows that some people have been born into christianity which makes it easier to believe and that some have never heard of him...or believe in different things.

The one described in the Old Testament, or some hypothetical 'first cause' god that they create for the sake of argument, who never ordered middle eastern genocide or any of the other nasty things in the OT?

These two seem to have very little in common with each other.

When Muslims talk about God, we automatically think of Allah.
Allah is the Arabic word for “The one true God”.

He is the Creator who created the universe, mankind and all
The other forms of life. He is the one who regulates all that
Happens in the universe.
Allah is unique and He has no partners. Does not Father nor is Born.
He is the same as God of the Christians and Jews.
Arab Christians and Jews call the Deity ALLAH as well.

The word Allah exists in the Arabic Christian Bible six times
In only the first paragraph and 15 times in the 1st page.

But the word God is not the accurate translation because there may
Be a Greek god a female goddess …But Allah is the one and
Only true God.

If you need an afterlife to give meaning to your life now, what meaning can you look forward to in an eternal afterlife?

If you anticipate that, once there, you will never die, then you will face no risks. If there is time, it is endless. If, on the other hand, there is no time, you will have no sense of life being everlasting because a second would be equally as lengthy as a millennium.

If you get to keep your percepual senses, how will you discern beauty with no squalor with which to compare it?

And with no choices that could be worse than any others, how will you feel a sense of a directed life in the world to come?

My husband and I received a wedding invite. His cousin is getting married. We have been invited to the rehearsal dinner. This includes a message asking us to prepare to present a scripture, poem/writing, or tried-and-true advice on marriage. These will be read at the rehearsal.

Now--I understand this is their wedding and they can be as religious as they want. But as most of you know, I am atheist and really cannot stand public speaking. I have no desire to be called on to present, nor do I really care to sit and listen to a bible study. I want to celebrate this couples wedding and wish them happiness in their life together. But IMO, this is not an appropriate time for a sermon.

They are also having a full pledge of faith and congregation communion at the wedding--which always makes us feel awkward to remain sitting.

I'm wondering if we should change our minds about going. Would you go and not participate? Or go and slip out during the bible study part? What would you do?

I knew a philosophy professor who explained atheism this way,
he said the trouble with atheists is that they believe they have proof for something that cannot be proven, while Christians admit that faith governs their belief. If an atheist did say it was faith, he would instantly become an agnostic (as he would be admitting that he doesn’t know for sure). Therefore, logically, it seems atheism can’t really exist?

After much soul searching, prayer and reading, I have come to a conclusion that "the full truth of the christian message" is to be found ONLY in the Catholic church. In the past I used to participate in any christian church. However, I always experieced so many inconsistencies in the faith and worship of my fellow "brothers in christ" especially protestants. I have nothing against them whatsoever, in fact most of my friends are "saved...born again" christians and I can testify that most of them seek, love and serve God with a sincere heart. What lead me to such soul searching is a deeper and more profound quest for a true christian message. There is indisputable historical and biblical evidence to support the faith and belief in the Catholic church. However, many non-catholics take a "superficial and critical assessment" of the basic doctrines and so do not come to the full appreciation of the Catholic claim. I realised this and so the reason for my decision. Discuss with me.

And STILL takes it, even unto this day. But who is mighty that he can defeat God Almighty?
It is amazing, but it 's no surprise. For the God of Abraham, Jacob, and Issac; He is our God.
Evil men have through the ages, tried in vain to destroy God's message to the world.
But Christ has been been preached for 2000 years. The OT/NT has been preserved through the ages.
The very NAME Jesus, when spoken, brings joy to soul of many and CONDEMNATION to others.

Particularly interested in the views of current members of African descent, and how the former but recent Church policies and the views of many of its most prominent leaders can be justified or explained by their Faith.

Though I'm white, now-suppressed Mormon teachings on the inferiority of blacks and the evils of desegregation and interracial marriage contributed to my alienation from the Church that I grew up in. Such published views were never discussed in the Church in the 1980's so I didn't know that they even existed.

See http://www.lds-mormon.com/racism.shtml , or type "mormon racism" into any search engine. For those that don't know, Kimball and Benson were Prophets of the church as recently as the 1980's, and until the late 1970's, there was an absolute prohibition on those of African descent from holding the higher Priesthood. Certainly, other churches held similar views in the 50's, but I'm aware of none that so openly discriminated based on skin color in the late 70's

How can anybody believe that a human being was actually God incarnate? The fact that the Messiah was not going to be just a prophet but Mighty God himself, was therefore a truth that had been prophesied seven hundred years Before Christ in the Old Testament(Tawrat) by prophet Isaiah, and not something that had been made up by Christians many years or centuries after Christ! It was God's own promise that he will come in flesh (Immanuel = God with us) and will establish a kingdom that will last forever.

I am an EX MUSLIM, accepted Jesus Christ as my LORD and SAVIOR.

A public school art teacher asked his students to paint a picture that would be displayed in the school's hallway. Each student was free to express themselves and there were no religious overtones in the teacher's request. One student painted a picture of Jesus, that was initially displayed with the other paintings, but was later removed when some parents complained. Should this picture have been removed? Why or why not?

It cant mean that Joseph didnt know who Mary was because they were engaged to be married. So what could it mean? Could it mean that Joseph waited to "know" Mary until she gave birth to Jesus? I believe it is saying that Joseph waited to have sexual intercourse with Mary until she had given birth to Jesus. So according to Matthew, sometime after Mary gave birth to Jesus, is when Joseph got together with his wife Mary in order to consumate their marriage. Which means, plain and simply, that Mary and Jospeph had sex. Which means Mary didnt remain a virgin as certain religions teach. It is foolish to think that Mary, being the good wife she was, would be so inconsiderate of her husbands needs as to not allow him the priveledge to engage in the bonds of holy matrimony with his beloved wife. Jospeh did the right thing by waiting until Mary had given birth before he went in to his bride to consumate the marriage vows. How long do most wives make their husbands wait after they give birth?
