He seems to have the ability to get the biggest rise. And from very intelligent people. He seems to be able to get them out of the woodwork.

Do you choose to 'not believe' because that negates your responsibility to live with morals?
Or is it just you honestly don't see evidence of a God?

I ask sincerely.

Does anyone believe that the catholic church uses mind control techniques to get what they need and want out of people. Through their preachings and private schools. The pope says it is not ok for divorced people to get communion-in this day and age. Catholic clergy do not live in the real world and have no concept. Their teachings on finances and economics have always LEANED towards socialism, marxism, SHARING the wealth. Yet is ok for priests to carry on sexually abusive relationships. It is ok for these people in clergy to sweep things under the rug.

Is this something that can be left up to priests, pastors, and saints (such as myself), or do the rank and file also need to be holy?

Also, is there a different standard of holiness for everyday people, from that of clergy etc.? Can really busy people get by with just perfunctory holiness?

Oh, and by the way, who is the holiest person on earth today?
We know that, as a group, the Baptists are holier than other denominations; but surely there are individuals who are actually holier than the Baptists?

One last question: is there a holiness scale, or holiness curve, as it were? Is it like a 1-to-5 scale, and how is each level of holiness defined?

One last question: Does being holy necessarily include being pious?

Are Christian Science and Scientology the same thing? I'm writing a report on Christian Science for religion but don't know if there the same thing or not. Thanks in advance for your answers.

I'm making no assumptions here. I'm just curious. I'm an atheist (to put it mildly) and I just wonder how many of you religious types out there believe you think for yourself. How many of you can honestly say you would have chosen the religion you invest part of every pay check in (this is a joke mind you, so please, don't waste space in the answer field debating my stereotype, ok?) if it hadn't been for mommy and daddy telling you what to believe from a very young age? Or, in general really, if there is a God, do you really need to be told by anyone in order to think he exists (and if not, because somebody alllwwaaayyss tries to say "no", then give me a an actual logical answer with more to it than "cuz, God would burn a bush and tell me himself if no one else did")? I ask this for those who are going to say "well, i never used to be a Christian, but when a friend told me about it, I decided to be as silly as him and believe in it later on in life! Well, come on, give it a go now

I beleive that there is a creator. And that all the lessons in life can be found through nature (the things that he/she created). I believe that the information to please the creator is found inside of every person. ex. You naturally have a guilty feeling when you do something hurtful to someone. Therefore you know that what you did was wrong and you don't need to do it again. I have not allowed much outside influence in my thinking. This is just what makes sense to me. Of course the culture and society that I've grown up in must of influenced me, but I'm a skeptic so I'm not easily influenced. I believe in "karma" or atleast that things come back around. I pray to God each night just to breifly say how greatful I am for the oppurtunity to make the best of my life. I don't think its right to ask God for things, I think that if you want something to change you make it change and if you are doing good deeds and helping and respecting the people around you God will help you.

Jesus and Satan were having an ongoing argument about who was better at using the computer.
They had been going at it for days, and God was tired of hearing all the bickering.
Finally God said, "Cool it. I am going to set up a test which will take two hours and it will judge who does the better job."
So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away.
They moused.
They did spreadsheets.
They wrote reports.
They sent faxes.
They sent e-mail.
They sent out e-mail with attachments.
They downloaded.
They did some genealogy reports.
They made cards.
They did every known job.
But, ten minutes before the time was up, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, thunder rolled, the rain poured, and of course, the electricity went off.
Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld.
Jesus just sighed.

It has been proposed that Science and Religion should be viewed as two separate and exclusive teachings that do not overlap.
At the risk of sounding like a "Neville Chamberlain" atheist I continue to sympathize with this view as a means of defusing the ongoing clash between science and religion.

How many others find this an acceptable compromise? Or do we just keep pushing for final victory?
