Why do so many Christians have so much time to answer questions on this site... but can never seem to find enough time to pray and study the Bible??

2007-03-04 07:12:15 · 21 answers · asked by Daniel 2

It seems that Jesus wanted to be emulated, not worshiped. The example prayer he gives prays to "Our Father," not "Christ Our Lord." I don't remember any of his apostles praying to him. At what point did people begin worshiping Jesus, and what logic did they use to get around the blatant idolatry?

Just wondering because people tend to think the person who commits suicide is burning in hell, unless their last thought was that they were sorry. I'm not saying it's not wrong...just that nowhere in the bible does it say it is unforgivable. And a fair, just God understands the mental and possibly physical anguish you were enduring and would allow you to show your repentance after resurrection. So, why do you...(or people you know) believe it to be unforgivable?

Thanks.

Read it and weep suckers!!!

Who Was Jesus?
The Bible gave a warning about a dangerous, false prophet who would arise to test our faith in G-d. In Deuteronomy 13, G-d describes this false prophet as a member of the Jewish people (v. 2, 7) who would tell true prophecies and would have the power of miracles. G-d Himself would give this false prophet the power to perform miracles and reveal prophecy, but the false prophet would try to seduce the people away from G-d's Law and towards strange gods unknown to Judaism. The purpose would be to test whether we are truly committed to living under the Law, or whether we will be dazzled and fall for the temptation to join a false path to salvation (v. 3-6, 7-8, 11). In this Biblical passage, G-d repeatedly commands the Jews to kill this false prophet, lest the evil spread and destroy many souls.

For miracles to be worthwhile, Jesus' allleged acts had to disturb a very strong natural set-up which looks impossible to change. Is that so?

I say you have your Theory of Creation and your Theory of Jesus as God and your Bible of Theories and we have our Theory of Evolution and a lot of physical evidence. Now, if you'll settle for that, so will I and I am being quite reasonable as I'm accepting 3 of your theories as theories and you only have to accept one theory.

I mean, I've heard the argument "God created doctors, so really, it's God who should take credit for everything they do". I'm not making this up... in fact, I believe it's an answer I received to a previous question. Go look it up if you'd like.

Anyhow, I have several questions for you:

Is that really the way it works? Does God take credit for the things we do? If so, is it because God made us "how we are" and we should therefore give him credit for what we do? Are we capable of EVERYTHING we do because of how God made us?

If not... should God be given credit for the work that doctors do? Is God only responsible for SOME of what we do? What do we take credit for and what does God? Exactly what things do we take "the blame" for, so to speak? What about God?

How does "free will" factor in?

And please... don't answer in generalities or in 5-10 words or by simply copy/pasting massive amounts of scripture. Take a bit more time than that, ok?

My husband and I belong to a church together. I feel that some of the teachings are wrong (Calvinism) whereas he feels this is where he should be. Do I continue to go with him? Do we go to separate churches? Do I try to show to him why I disagree with Calvinism?

Both of these cannot be proven, no matter how much evidence you can get to support them. No one witnessed evolution, and no one witnessed the creation of man. Evolutionists use bones and layers of sedimentary rock to estimate things such as how old things may be and what came when, and creationists believe in a book that they believe was inspired by a higher power.

I'm trying not to take sides, even though I have my own opinions. I'm just wondering what others think. Thanks for your time, and please correct, answer, or comment in a polite manner.

If that's all it was, why not just say so? Why make it into a big thing, saying he died and all that -- when we know the bible says he knew he was going to resurrect and become a god (and have the last laugh)?

If it was just a bad weekend, and he did it for my sins, I can still sympathize and be grateful -- but when you make it sound like a huge humongous sacrifice, that's a little ingenuous.

I for one get turned off when you church people give me all this hyperbole.

Just tell it like it is, I can still sympathinze with Jesus and thank him even it was only a bad weekend -- and I'll thank you church people for being straight with us.

Question: Can we all be more reasonable about this Jesus-and-sins doctrine?

if god is so powerful couldn't he have just farted out the universe and then taken credit for it like all men would.

..."I can't believe I liked that!"
Share your list!!!
The question is: What did you fancy in your youth, that now you dislike? I will tell you mine if you tell me yours...
1.The song "Ballroom Blitz"
2.Public pools (Baby piddle and people's spit :^( )
3.Muslims (So over that, can't fool me now!)
4.Catching frogs. (What was I thinking?)
5.Mixing drinks: Doing shots with wine/beer. (Oh my gosh no)
6.Bad boys. ( I only accept the good now.)

What is on your list?

Is it POSSIBLE that he was acting out of compassion and mercy?

2 reasons for this theory -

1. crucifiction is known to be a lengthy, painful method of execution. It was common at the time for crucified criminals to be killed before they died of exposure.

2. The Roman Legions of that period had a tradition of carrying daggers to assist their badly wounded comrades to die.

If this Roman did act out of compassion, how harshly should he be judged?

In 1 Corintheans 15: 3 - 8 Paul writes -

"Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, and was buried. And he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures
and he appeared to Cephas, which is Peter, and then to the twelve.Afterward, he appeared to more than 500 brethren, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Afterward he appeared to James, and then to all the missionaries.Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me."

At which "appearances" was he physical and when was he spiritual? My submission is that he ws spiritual in all of them because he never physically rose from death. Your views?

As a Christian, I am very troubled to say that I researched the statistics on this and it is true... Christians are generally less intelligent than everyone else. There are a disproportionate number of Christians in jail and unemployeed.. More college educated people tend to be not Christians! Most great artists, musicians, intellectuals, authors, PhD's, philanthropists and scientists tend to NOT be CHRISTIANS. My source is ADHERENTS.COM (note on some, like Philip Bailey=Christian - but is a practicing homosexual.

BUT WAIT! Before you go running over to "smartypants SATAN" I asked my pastor about this and he said that this is exactly why God did not want us to eat from the tree of knowledge.. That learning and reason were from the devil... Christians believe the Bible and God because faith is not supposed to make sense. IN a sense, the more stupid you are, the better Christian you will be! You have to deny the tree of knowledge so you can become dumb enough to have faith in God.

Sometimes I ask the question,
"My Lord, is this your will?"
It's then I hear you answer me,
"My Precious Child... be still."
Sometimes I feel frustrated,
cause I think I know what's best.
It's then I hear you say to me,
"My Busy Child... just rest"
Sometimes I feel so lonely
and I think I'd like a mate.
Your still small voice gets oh so clear
and says, "My Child...please wait"
"I know the plans I have for you,
the wondrous things you'll see;
If you can just be patient, Child,
and put your trust in me.
I've plans to draw you closer.
I've plans to help you grow.
There's much I do you cannot see
and much you do not know.
But know this, Child...I LOVE YOU.
