If that's all it was, why not just say so? Why make it into a big thing, saying he died and all that -- when we know the bible says he knew he was going to resurrect and become a god (and have the last laugh)?
If it was just a bad weekend, and he did it for my sins, I can still sympathize and be grateful -- but when you make it sound like a huge humongous sacrifice, that's a little ingenuous.
I for one get turned off when you church people give me all this hyperbole.
Just tell it like it is, I can still sympathinze with Jesus and thank him even it was only a bad weekend -- and I'll thank you church people for being straight with us.
Question: Can we all be more reasonable about this Jesus-and-sins doctrine?

You are giving him too much credit. He suffered for a few hours, slept for a day and they had to get up early on Sunday. He didn't suffer any more pain than any of millions of people have over the course of history.
I agree. Thanks but, Jesus, do you have to make such a big deal out of it?

I'm sorry that some people have turned you off on the sacrifice thing, but that's exactly what Jesus' death and resurrection was. He died in payment of our sins. If you can't get with that then that's really just up to you. Jesus is God regardless of whether anyone believes in Him or not.

he's sacrifice became the threat for salvation, to hitch the hot kingdom and eternal existence. Why do you imagine he informed to his follower to spread out the reliable information? in case you examine the Bible contained in the destiny you gained't stupidities like this one. listed below are many stuff contained in the global to make interesting of it, stop doing it with Jesus, God and the in reality reliable issues we've left, may be you're atheist, I recognize that, yet recognize my believes and any individuals's too, it would not count number number what faith you're, or are literally not, each body deserve the recognize for his or her believes.

In answer to your second question: we already are. We being all of the Christian church throughout history. you are simply having a knee jerk reaction to one particular approach; there ARE others; ones that are more sensible. Go to wikipedia and look up the "Christus Victor" approach to Atonement. Hint: it's from the Eastern Orthodox churches.

He was perfect, and free from sin, but He was tortured, beaten, and killed, so that we wouldn't have to suffer the punishment we were told we would receive for doing the things we then preceded to do anyway.
If THAT'S not a sacrifice, then I don't know what is.

I agree with Ash. He didn't just die like that on the cross. He was beaten, and they put nails on him evrywhere, just do He could help us. Think about how painful that would be. He helped us all.
That IS a HUGE SACRAFICE

Someone else who likes Julia Sweeney! I love what I've heard of "Letting Go of God." You probably should give her some credit, though.
