Short {challenging to do) essay on what Buddhism is, alright, here goes:

Life is suffering, but we can acquire true peace and Happiness. Patiently read. Thanks.
Dukkha: Suffering = it means more than just pain and misery; things are never quite as perfect as we would like, never fully adequate to our expectations of what we think they should be. Dukkha shows up in the events of birth, aging, and death, in our susceptibility to sickness, accidents, and injuries, even in hunger and thirst. Dukkha also appears in our inner reactions to disagreeable situations and events: in the sorrow, anger, frustrations, and fear aroused by painful separations, by unpleasant encounters, by the failure to get what we want. Even our pleasures, are not immune from Dukkha. They give us happiness while they last, but they do not last forever.

The Causes of our Suffering is Kilesas (Pali) meaning unwholesome mental states: greed, aversion and delusion. Greed is self-centered
desire: the unsatisfied desires for pleasure and possessions, the urge to bolster the sense of ego with power, status, and prestige. Aversion signifies the response of negation, enmity, hatred, and violence. Delusion means mental darkness: the thick coat of insensitivity which blocks clear understanding. And from these three {Greed, Aversion, and Delusion) emerge the various other unwholesome factors = conceit, jealousy, lethargy, arrogance, etc.

To gain free from suffering/dukkha, to acquire a true peace of mind, and happiness, we need to eliminate all those unwholesome mental, emotional, and spiritual factors, which must be "guided" through investigation, analysis, and introspection.

What "guides" us is the Noble Eightfold Path of Siddhartha Guatama {The Buddha).
Noble Eightfold Path:
1) Wise/Right Understanding
2) Wise/Right Thoughts/Intentions
3) Wise/Right Speech
4) Wise/Right Actions
5) Wise/Right Livelihood
6) Wise/Right Effort
7) Wise/Right Mindfulness
8) Wise/Right Concentration{Meditation).
This is the Path which eliminates suffering once and for all, producing the true peace of mind, and happiness, which all mankind has always sought for.

This, to be honest, this is the shortest, and the best explanation, that I, myself can give you.

It would be of most help for you to read the book, "The Noble Eightfold Path" {Way to the End of Suffering) BY; Bhikkhu Bodhi.
**It is available to read, FOR FREE, over the internet. He is an excellent teacher, and is the president and editor of the Buddhist Publication Society.

Hope this helps you gain some insight on Buddhism. Thank You for giving me the opportunity to share with you.

With Metta {loving-kindness and friendship).

"“I coach one element and one element basically, suffering and the top of suffering. there is largely one 2d in time whilst it somewhat is had to evoke. That 2d is now." ~Buddha In compassion and selflessness, Buddha teaches empathy for as quickly as we amplify our love for self (by potential of gaining understanding of our actual self) to cover all others (each and every little thing interior the universe), love will become compassion (genuine love for all beings): "He who studies cohesion of existence sees his very own Self in all beings and all beings in his very own Self." ~Buddha all of it boils right down to understanding and controlling our suggestions: "Be the witness of your suggestions. you're what observes, not what you be conscious." ~Buddha Osho explains it terrific: "The previous is not extra and the destiny isn't yet: the two are unnecessarily shifting in guidelines which do not exist. One used to exist, yet now not exists, and one has not even began to exist. the only perfect person is one that lives 2d to 2d, whose arrow is directed to the 2d, who's continuously here and now; anyplace he's, his complete understanding, his complete being, is in touch interior the certainty of here and interior the certainty of now. it extremely is the only perfect direction. basically this way of guy can enter into the golden gate. the present is the golden gate. here-now's the golden gate. and additionally you would be interior the present given which you at the instant are not formidable--no accomplishment, no choose to realize capacity, money, status, even enlightenment, because of fact all ambition leads you into the destiny. basically a non-formidable guy can stay interior the present. a guy who needs to be interior the present has to not think of, has just to verify and enter the gate. adventure will come, yet adventure has to not be premeditated. If the suggestions needs to comprehend certainty, it is going to could desire to come out of the previous and the destiny. yet popping out of the previous and the destiny, it somewhat is now not the suggestions in any respect. hence the insistence of each and every of the great masters of the international that the door to certainty isn't any-suggestions. The suggestions exists in time, in fact the suggestions is time; it exists interior the previous and the destiny. And undergo in suggestions, time includes basically 2 tenses, the previous and the destiny. the present isn't component of time, the present is an element of eternity." "What you do is what the excellent universe is doing, on the area you call here and now." ~Zen Buddhist grasp Alan Watts
