I'm having a couple of Muslim friends over for dinner next week. On previous occasions, I've cooked vegetarian, becuase I know that's halal. I'd like to be able to cook something non-vegetarian this time, though. My questions are these;

1. Is all fish halal?
2. What, if any, seafood (shrimp, crab, clams, etc) is halal?
3. If there is no place locally that I can get halal meats, will meat from a Kosher market be OK?
4. Is there any prohibition aobut dairy and meat at the same meal, as there is in Judiasm?

Arabic manuscript found in Iraq, agree word for word with Latin manuscripts found in Rome, and so forth. If there were extensive errors in translation, the 1000's of known ancient text would not agree with the various translations in different countries today.

"The story of a Great Flood sent by a deity or deities to destroy civilization as an act of divine retribution is a widespread theme in Greek and many other cultural myths. The stories of Noah and the ark in Genesis, Matsya in the Hindu Puranas, Deucalion in Greek mythology and Utnapishtim in the Epic of Gilgamesh are among the most familiar versions of these myths."

hey christians, you see that. different gods telling different people to survive a flood at different places than noah. HENCE, ITS A MYTH.

so if one story in the bible is a myth, what makes you think THE REST AREN'T ALL MYTHS???

It is so funny to me how people word things.

"If you don't believe then you're going to the lakes of fire for all eternity and shall be tormented"

"On the day of the Rapture you will be left behind and will suffer God's wraith"

"What is better? To believe and be saved or to not believe and be damned?"

Oh, I could go and on with these kind of remarks I have seen here and heard religious people say.It is just so funny to me.Do they think we haven't heard all that before? It's not like we don't have TV or the Internet to learn about the many torments that await us if we don't believe. Why must it be cycled over and over and over again?Do they honestly think that they are converting people with ultimatums?Or do they say this as a way to reassure themselves that they still believe?

If someone said to you, "accept polka music or go to Hell", would it instantly make you want to love polka music? Why do they think that works when they use that line to force people to accept faith?

Kohlberg described 6 stages in moral development:

Level 1 (Pre-Conventional)
1. Obedience & punishment orientation (Do it or suffer)
2. Self-interest orientation (What's in it for me?)

Level 2 (Conventional)
3. Interpersonal accord & conformity (The good boy/good girl attitude)
4. Authority and social-order maintaining orientation (Law and order morality)

Level 3 (Post-Conventional)
5. Social contract orientation (Greatest good for the greatest number)
6. Universal ethical principles (Principled conscience)

When you consider the moral teachings of your particular faith, doctrine, or discipline, how do their teachings fit into the particular stages of moral development described by Dr. Kohlberg?

There is a verse in the Quran (verse 34 from Al Nisa'a) that allows men to punish their wives if they "FEAR" that their wives are not obedient enough. The punishment ranges from refusing to have sex with the wife to "BEATING" her.

Does this mean that the Quran gives men advantage over women?

If we have such a loving God, why are some people, for example born Hindu? They are most definately going to be Hindu, raise Hindu children and then by the bible, go to hell. This means that they are destined to go to hell. I know you're saying that they can change their relidgion, but say someone came up to you and told you that Brahmen was the all powerful source of all life and that you had to belive in it to be reincarnated? You wouldn't change your relidgion. So does that make those people destined to go to hell?

If your child chose to follow a different religion than you, what would your thoughts be and why?

This is to the Atheists, Christians, Muslims, and all other religions.

My question is, how tall is God. I ask this as a serious question knowing that all Theists are going to ignore it, since I am an Atheist.

Many of the religious right belief that God dissapproves of Gay Marriage, and I feel that this means they know the thoughts of God. I just don't understand how we can know the thoughts of God but not know how tall God is.

But thats ok, I'm sure that the theists will ignore this question.

Okay why are we (agnostics and/or atheists) treated like freakin satan by christians? They think if you're not christian your evil or something...I don't get it. I know agnostic and atheist is two major different things and they think we're all the same. My frustration is really building up. My family talks so bad about my cousin who is an atheist... It really makes me sad that if I told them I was agnostic they would talk about me like that. I took up for agnostics and said they aren't that bad same for atheists....My family replied they're all the same and gave an evil look. This really pisses me off and any christians reading this please don't say mean things about this I just want reasonable answers from people who know where I'm coming from.

So just for the sake of argument lets take the origin of man question. If you are a Creationist, lets say they found evidence that proves 100% that man evolved form monkeys. If you are an Evolutionist, lets say God came down and told you he created man. Would your life really change that much?
I do not have an opinion on either side of this debate because I can not see how it would change my life if one where right and the other wrong.
Please only answer if you are going to answer this HYPOTHETICAL question how it is written. Also do not think I am attacking any of your beliefs, I am not. I just want to know what you think.
Thanks.

I have anxiety....one of the things that have been getting to me is doubts about my salvation. I came to believe at 17, although I don't remember asking Jesus into my heart as Lord and Savior. I have done this in the past after my conversion. I'm having a hard time trusting him with my doubts and fears. Is there always going to be a degree of doubt when we have true faith in Jesus Christ for the forgivness of sins?
