The Lord's prayer is recited by approximately a billion Christians each week:
"Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed by thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses (debts)
As we forgive those who trespass against us (our debtors).
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever."
Yet almost a billion people do not have their daily bread. Forgiveness is hard to come by, particularly among Christians. And certainly bad things continue to occur.
But Jesus said, "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:19-20)
So why has this massive prayer produced no global change?
