Joseph, of the Old Testament, was given a wife by Potifera, a priest (not priestess?) Who was this 'wife', and what architype does she represent? There's a definate lack of information on this seemingly 'discreet' topic...and, if I rearrange the Hebrew letters of her name, I get some disturbing results...Let's hear some feedback!

genesis 41:45, he was not given a wife by potifera but a wife named asenath who was the daughter of potipherah.

In a lot of instances they don't even mention the wives. There's a lot of mystery surrounding Moses' wife too. I don't know about the practice of re-arranging the letters on her name. I could get some strange words from re-arranging the English letters of your name too.

The sons were raised as part of the Israelites, and Jacob even blessed them as if they were his own sons, so I don't think the wife was a negative influence.

What type of archetype do you think she represents?

Poti-far was the head of the prison and it was his wife (only referred to textually as "the wife of poti-far" who tried to seduce Joseph. He, when told of this (even though she made it look like Joseph was the agressor) still liked Joseph enough 9and didn't believe his wife so much) that he eventually let Joseph marry his daughter, Osnat.

the hebrew, btw is אָסְנַת which does not turn into anything much when you rearrange the letters.

Please tell us more info: what was her name, and when you re-arrange the letters of her name (was she Hebrew as well, or Egyptian?) what does it spell in Hebrew (or Egyptian)?

Asenath?? Wait - what does that spell in ancient Egyptian? Because it doesn't matter what it spells in English.

ANOTHER EDIT:
The blueletterbible site says her name means "belonging to the goddess Neith"
