I mean, you hear about it once in a while on the news, but do the Mormons in rural Utah still practice polygamy to any significant extent? Out in those remote areas of Utah they exist in a world of their own, basically independent of the U.S around them, so I wonder if lots of those critters out in those hills still take 6 or 8 wives? Scary people... sorta like the Amish but with bad attitudes.

Lots of them - mostly in Utah where there are too many to enforce the bigomy laws - but they have communities in a lot of different states. They are very secretive and private and strange, indeed. I mostly hear about 3-5 wives (and a bunch of kids on welfare!)

There is a group of Mormons that left the main "Church" when polygamy was declared wrong and unacceptable.

True Mormons don't recognize them.

Mormons and Amish have nothing in common...please read about both....very interesting.

LDS do not practice Polygamy. There are some people who use the book of Mormon but are considered to be in a state of apostasy by LDS.

LDS are basically what people mean when they say Mormons. They represent all of the Mormon commercials we used to see on TV, the missionaries that come to your doors, etc.

Depends on who you classify as Mormon. The largest group "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" who actually call themselves Mormon, excommunicates members of their church who practice polygamy and then turns them over to the authorities. (The link below is to their website). However, there are different and much smaller religious groups that practice polygamy. They may or may not call themselves Mormons.

Yes they do where they can. I believe that since the US has a law against poligamy, they perform their own marital rites that don't have standing in a court of law. Did u know that Mormons also believe that women must marry in order to have a chance of entering heaven. i think Joseph Smith was a very sexist person.
