I received two spellings: one is "Muadhin" and the other is "Mu'ezzin' I thought it was 'Mu'ezzin but which would be the correct spelling? Are they the same word, just spelled according to each dialect (as in one is Arabic and one the English version)? I think this may be the case but which would be correct if I were using it in writing?

You believe that god can exist without begining, so why can't you believe that matter can exist without begining?

Do you have such an aversion to believing that matter can exist without cause that you are willing to go out of your way to come up with something else that CAN exist without cause so you can have a cause for matter? It seems like an intellectual backflip to me, a rube goldberg contraption to describe a straight line.

90% of Americans say they believe in a God. The vast majority say God is very important in their lives. Yet, so many don't go to church.

I know some might be jaded because of the scandals in the Catholic church, the apparent narrow-mindedness of the extreme religious right, etc. But, what about mainstream churches that teach tolerance and love and welcome others with open arms?

I'm Christian, but I'm not saying others must be Christian. Attend the church, synagogue, or temple of your choice.

Please don't give sarcastic, bitter, nasty replies. I'm looking for real answers. I want to understand it.

THE ORIGIN OF CHRISTMAS

9 It was not until several hundred years after Jesus lived on the earth that people began to commemorate his birth on December 25. But that was not the date of Jesus’ birth, for it evidently took place in October. So why was December 25 chosen? Some who later claimed to be Christian likely "wished the date to coincide with the pagan Roman festival marking the ‘birthday of the unconquered sun.’" (The New Encyclopædia Britannica) In winter, when the sun seemed weakest, pagans held ceremonies to get this source of warmth and light to come back from its distant travels. December 25 was thought to be the day that the sun began its return. In an effort to convert pagans, religious leaders adopted this festival and tried to make it seem "Christian."

10 The pagan roots of Christmas have long been recognized. Because of its unscriptural origin, Christmas was banned in England and in some of the American colonies during the 17th century. Anyone who even stayed home from work on Christmas day had to pay a penalty. Soon, though, the old customs were back, and some new ones were added. Christmas once again became a big holiday, and that is what it still is in many lands. Because of the connections that Christmas has with false religion, however, those who want to please God do not celebrate it or any other holiday that has its roots in pagan worship.

Has the modern-day celebration of Christmas lost sight of Christ? Officially, December 25 has been observed since the fourth century C.E., when the Roman Catholic Church designated that day for religious observance of Jesus’ birth. But according to a recent poll taken in the United States, only 33 percent of those polled felt that the birth of Christ is the most important aspect of Christmas.

What do you think? Do you at times feel that in all the insistent advertising, the harried buying of presents, the decorating of trees, the organizing and attending of parties, the sending of cards—Jesus has somehow been left out of the picture?

Many seem to feel that one way to put Christ back into Christmas is by displaying a Nativity scene, or crèche. Likely you have seen such groupings of figurines, representing the baby Jesus in a manger surrounded by Mary, Joseph, some shepherds, "three wise men," or "three kings," some barnyard animals, and some onlookers. It is commonly felt that these crèches serve to remind people of the real meaning of Christmas. According to U.S. Catholic, "a crèche gives a more developed picture than any single gospel can give, though it also emphasizes the nonhistorical character of these narratives."

How, though, would a Nativity scene suggest that the narratives in the Gospel accounts of the Bible are nonhistorical? Well, it must be admitted that quaintly painted little sculptures lend an aura of legend or fairy tale to the birth of Christ. First popularized by a monk in the 13th century, the Nativity scene was once a fairly modest affair. Today, like so many other things associated with this holiday, Nativity scenes have become big business.

And my last thougt to leave you with in the bible it leaves you with the day and year and month and date when jesus died, but there is NO evidence of jesus being born on Dec. 25,

Maybe you feel that the origins of holidays have little to do with how they are celebrated today. Do origins really matter? Yes! To illustrate: Suppose you saw a piece of candy lying in the gutter. Would you pick up that candy and eat it? Of course not! That candy is unclean. Like that candy, holidays may seem sweet, but they have been picked up from unclean places. To take a stand for true worship, we need to have a viewpoint like that of the prophet Isaiah, who told true worshipers: "Touch nothing unclean."—Isaiah 52:11

Another disturbing question arises with regard to the nature of Christmas celebrations. If Jesus returned to the earth today, what would he think about the rank commercialism of Christmas? would he approve of it?

i want to beleive in god and go to heaven, but i cant. I have gone to church a few times with my family but it felt wrong, out of place. I have to many quistions about religion: which one should i pick? if i pick the wrong one will i go to hell? why are there so many wars over religion? and so many more... I have come to the belief that im a good person i try to live my life through the golden rule "do to others as u would want others to do to you" As far as i know we only have one life to live so im going to try and live a great life. Im going to do the things that make me happy. I also know that there are billions of people in this world some evil but mostly good. I beleive that we should do what makes us happy without harming one another. just my thoughts thanks for reading. U all have a nice day :)

The National Catholic Almanac (1968)

almighty, eternal, holy, immortal, immense, immutable, incomprehensible, ineffable, infinite, invisible, just, loving, merciful, most high, most wise, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, patient, perfect, provident, supreme, true.

incomprehensible (cannot be understood) and ineffable (cannot be described) mean that the other words of this list are all contradictory to these two. remove these two, and god can fit in our mortal brains. remove all the rest, and you have described in 2 words nothing more than "nothingness, or infinity"

To make things clear, The word Prophet(Nabi) means a messenger of God, someone who brings guidance to people. The Holy Propher(P.B.U.H) prophecized the coming of an Imam who'll bring misguided Muslims back to the true teachings of Islam.
Now Ahmadi Muslims believe that the promised Imam already came and he is the person who's coming was promised by Holy Prophet(P.B.U.H) .
Now, this imam's duty was to reguide people back to the true teachings of islam. So basically, he was a messenger of God reguiding people towards truth. now, isnt this the defintion of a Prophet(Nabi). This is the reason we call that Imam Nabi. Now some Non-Ahmadi muslims say that accepting him Nabi is not true because Holy Prophet(P.B.U.H) is the last prophet. Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) IS the last Prophet. His prophethood is a special one unlike the ordinary prophet hood. His prophethood is the one where a completely new religion is introduced, this type of prophet is not claimed by our imam. so please takenote.

He puts Adam and Eve in the garden with a “tree of knowledge” that they are under no condition allowed to eat from. He puts a serpent in there for the sole purpose of tempting them to eat from the tree (just in case they don’t do it on their own). He is all knowing, so he knew they were going to do it from the beginning.

When they eat from the tree (which he knew they would) he punishes them all harshly. He takes the serpents legs away! Lucky you weren’t the serpent, huh? He casts the people out of the garden. He punishes, not just Adam and Eve, but all their decedents for this “crime” for millennia’s.

It seems to me that if you believe in the bible then you have to face it; you’re god’s punching bag.

I’m sure you’ll blame it on the devil (illogically). Oh well, what do you think?

I hope no-one find this an offensive question. I don't mean it to be. I know religion provokes very strong reactions in people and I don't want anyone wanting to crucify me or pronounce a fatwah, or whatever it is.

It's just that it appears to me that the *most* religious countries are the poorest ones. The ones where people are existing in extreme poverty, and because of this, perhaps less educated. Richer, more sophisticated societies seem to be more secular.

I just want to understand!
