The National Catholic Almanac (1968)

almighty, eternal, holy, immortal, immense, immutable, incomprehensible, ineffable, infinite, invisible, just, loving, merciful, most high, most wise, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, patient, perfect, provident, supreme, true.

incomprehensible (cannot be understood) and ineffable (cannot be described) mean that the other words of this list are all contradictory to these two. remove these two, and god can fit in our mortal brains. remove all the rest, and you have described in 2 words nothing more than "nothingness, or infinity"

ONEWHOSUB:
you could break that down to about 4 descriptions considering "maker" and "creator" and "one who forms" all things is what we know as redundant.

also, these discriptions are possible, but not probable. a loving god would not make creation do evil and then punish them for it. disease would NOT exist, neither would murder (especially murder carried out in ALLAH's name! not a very omnipotent god if he lets men use his name for such evil!)

WEFMEISTE:
if we CANNOT describe god, nor know him, then HOW CAN YOU SAY HE"S INFINITE? that would be... ahem... a description. indescribable and unknowable means that every description falls short and any knowledge of him is limited, or nonexistant. do you realize what this means? your entire religion is based on something that you readily admit you cannot grasp! that is the same as the man born in a dark room with no windows describing what he can only assume is on the "outside" of his world!

Read George H. Smith's "Atheism: The Case Against God". He thoroughly addresses all of these supposed characteristics.

the word incomprehensible is somewhat of a bad description, thats what man has deducted without going on a spiritual journey.

Hes not incomprehensible, He just cant be seen or felt or touched because He is not a physical being like that of the created, because He is nothing like the created.

Faith requires you to know that you are being watched but youre too respectful to ask what the watcher looks like.

Edit: Terry has it about right. God says He is worthy of no bodys description but Himself in the Quran. 99 names are mentioned in the Quran.

It is all well and good to praise God for His omniscience; as Almighty, and all that, but in order to develop a close relationship to the Godhead, one could possibly drop the awe and reverence aspect of ones worship. Thus, we can get close to God as the Beloved, the Friend. See Krsna conscious literature for more on how to love God in different relationships: as friend, as lover, as your son, such a more intimate relationship than where one seems God as the infinite, almighty, etc. Find out what God looks like, where He lives, who is friends and lovers are: www.krishna.com

I dont agree with the catholic doctrine but I agree with the names of God

Incomprehensible means man has never undestood the ways of God

We dont have the words to describe the Glory of the LORD calling him magnifeceint is about the only word we could use to describe something we cant comprehend

Interesting. I believe He's incomprehensible in the sense that eternity could never bring us to end of learning about Him. At the same time he reveals himself to us in his inspired word. So much is revealed that we can come to have a deep love for him. Maybe incomprehensible is not the correct term. Interesting.

Human brain can know more explain God as a peice of pottery explaining the potter. God is so much more than we are. Look at all He created. Look at an eyeball, how intricate and delicate the engineering is. God is amazing.

You are illogical. Omnipotence, eternity, holiness or immortality cannot be comprehended or described. The limited cannot grasp the unlimited. Only God can know God.

But of course you have it all figured out.Since God doesn't explain himself to you personally,He does not exist.IS that right ?He has shown himself in nature and in the people he has created in His image. That's all the evidence you may ever get in this life.

God is infinity. we cant descibe him. almight and the other words are not descibing him on how he looks or they do not fully describe him, they are titles given for him and descibing his personality. just like heavenly father, Lord of lords, King of kings, and even that does not fully describe him. you can say someone is good but that does not fully describe the person.
