there was this report last year on many tv channels. Astronomers worked it out that Jesus was NOT born in December nor in January. When Jesus was born in Palestine/Israel, God told Mary to eat dates from the date tree she was resting under. The type of dates she ate grows only in mid August. The guy who made our calender, Augustus something was a preist who knew nothing about Astronomy. Ofcourse this topic is very detailed and complex. I really don't think Christianity is ready to change Xmas..

If God wants us to love him, why doesn't he show himself? Why is he such a coward? Is it because he doesn't even exist?

wasn't real; that it never really happened? It seems like I heard that on the news or something once recently, but I haven't really heard anything else about it. I also just kinda caught the tail-end of the story.

If anyone has any information on this story, or somewhere where I can read about it, could you give me that information?

Also, what are your views on this story? Where is he getting that from?

I see this everyday on here. But I have never seen a pagan whining about " why do we have to put up with them?"
I don't see the Hindus, the Budhist, the agnostics or even the Muslims asking this.
Is it because their beliefs are based on scientific fact that can't be disproven? You really can't argue with knowledge that is being taught all over the world in schools and Universities.
Is it offensive that most Atheist are good people even with out any religious structure in their life? The purpose of religion is to make someone a better person, but if they are a good person already then they wouldn't need it.
OR, is it the fact that they take responsability for their own actions and don't blame it on some imaginary being? Personally, I find this trait quite honorable!
So I ask again. If these people have a very well grounded, well balanced and strong foundation for their personal spiritual belief, why do so many of you want them out?
I think they are intellectually stimulating!

They keep saying be logical, be logical. I'm atheist, and I'm saying it's not logical. All the top dogs figured that out: Nietzsche, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, etc...Yes, people have freedom of choice, but they never choose what choices will be presented, how their emotions react, or what they've learned thus far (and don't tell me that you can be born in Africa and still choose to be perfectly educated as a Harvard scholar). Knowledge chooses us. That means knowledge of what is "good" and what is "bad." Anyone who thinks they can choose what they want and how they feel is very naive, and control only comes with knowledge which is not equally distributed. Once you realize that freewill is an illusion, that people would be nothing without influence from the outside world (something not within our control) - you will have no reasons to hate anyone.

Even Richard Dawkins said humans are biological machines subject to programming.

In the NT we have story of Saul. A man totally opposed to Jesus and Christians, who even actively persecuted them. There is no indication from scripture that he was pondering their philosophy, or that he had any sympathy for them. He was just out to get them.

Then Jesus sends him a slap-in-the-face vision with a bright light and a booming voice that esentially tells Saul to do a 180. With such an obvious show of power and authority, Saul decides it's best to change his name to Paul and become the champion of Christianity.

So here's my question: What makes him so special? Why does he get such an obvious and blatant "wake up call" when the rest of us are expected to fully believe the message of Christianity with no more than "a whisper of the Holy Spirit in our hearts." If Christians are to be believed, and there is a god up there that personally cares about each of our salvation's, then wouldn't it be much more effective to give us all a mighty vision of his majesty?

And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.

At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

Woe unto them who call evil, good, and good, evil"

many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;

We all know different religions have different dates for the birth of Jesus but the similarity between the Roman God Mithras and Jesus are uncanny.

Do you think that the Romans believed in Mithras or used it as an excuse to make up for the fact that they executed the Son of God?

Due to the forums and topics discussed and I have input information on over the last few weeks, I have decided finally to become a Satanist.

With the fighting and disagreements of everyone thinking that they are right, I have only found a few groups of people who I can agree with. The Atheists and the Pagans. Everyone else thinks that every other religion or belief system is wrong, and I'm not going to be bound to the mindless perceptions that I have seen: people trying to convert others; people trying to rebuke others; Insults towards each other; so-called proof and other such items; bible quotations.

All I have to ask is this...

Are you happy that you have caused people like myself to convert to a separate religion to escape the fighting and insults provided by those who think that everything about their religion is right for everyone?

Because that is what has happened to me. I realize that there are real people in these forums, with the occasional re-post bot....

I used to have faith in friends and family, but as human beings, we tend to turn our backs on ourselves for our religious beliefs. I never really had faith in God, just like I never really had faith that Santa was real and as a person raised through Catholicism, I associate one with the other now. I don't want to 'turn to Jesus' because I don't agree with a lot of people who have done that. I also don't want to become religious or anything. It's like I just want an answer to my life and I can't turn to anybody to ask it. Has anyone else ever felt this way? And pleeeeeeeease don't quote the Bible....
