there was this report last year on many tv channels. Astronomers worked it out that Jesus was NOT born in December nor in January. When Jesus was born in Palestine/Israel, God told Mary to eat dates from the date tree she was resting under. The type of dates she ate grows only in mid August. The guy who made our calender, Augustus something was a preist who knew nothing about Astronomy. Ofcourse this topic is very detailed and complex. I really don't think Christianity is ready to change Xmas..

i'm shocked at how you Christians know about this and yet don't **** a shyte! It's the birth of Jesus, the only messenger from God who started preaching from the first moments of life. You know we get this huuuuge cake in mid-august with 2000+ candles on it and all the family and friends come and we celebrate it.

PS: i'm not Christian

Blah, blah, blah. Big news! We KNOW that. It doesn't matter. Jesus came to save us, so we celebrate. He loves you too. A Blessed Christmas to you.

Well, we celebrate the 25th of December as Christmas because Constatine wanted to integrate Christianity as Romes main religion. The Romans at that time celebrated Saturnalia, in honor of the god Saturn, and it was a time of feasting and partying basically. It was one of the biggest celebrations of the year and because he wanted his empire to be united, he and a council of others decided that it would be best to say that this was when Jesus was born since he didn't want his people to believe in Saturn anymore. It was a way to control the masses since Christianity was on the rise at the time and he needed their support to keep the countries that had been conquered in line.

It was pretty ingenious actually. Especially since he didn't convert to the religion until afterwards. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Christmas shouldn't be celebrated. Whether you are Christian, pagan, or atheist, it should be a time when you come together with friends and family and celebrate life and love one another.

OMG! this is news? wow....glad it was on TV....have you tried reading books? IT WAS PUT ON THE 25TH OF DECEMBER TO REPLACE THE FEAST OF MITHRAS! Mithras, being a sun god, would have his "birthday" on the winter solstice, which is when the days start getting longer. The December 25th, January 7th discrepancy comes from the conflict between the Julian and Gregorian calenders.

Really this isn't news......

I really don't think it matters much since the importance of the death of Christ far outweighs his birth. Not to mention that Christmas is a symbolical event, and like many things it's the thought behind it that makes it important. And, many of our Christmas traditions are a combination of pagan rituals, thus negating the details of the day. Have fun and be merry!

It doesn't matter. Christmas isn't a Christian holiday. It's my holiday and it's on the 25th of December and Jesus doesn't even have to exist for me to celebrate it. hehehe ;)

Everyone knows that if the bible is in anyway acurate in respects to his birth (which is unlikely) that he was born in summer or late spring.

yes, it was september 1st, I posted a link in another article and am too lazy to look it up. The other topic was about lambasting people for celebrating it late and not even having the common curtesy to admit that it was belated.

jesus was born in september.

Well, actually, yes Christmas IS on Dec. 25. That might not be the birthday of Jesus, but it is Christmas.

I think the point is the celebration. Not the date.

Who cares if the date is wrong?
