Especially since he's allegedly all powerful and all knowing and could destroy everything at any moment if he felt like it.... Not to mention, why would he need others to fight a spiritual "war" for him if he could easily defeat his enemies? This question was asked before and someone answered : "He doesn't need us to worship him. Its something we do to profess our faith, show our love and gratitude." If this is the case - then why would a God be selfish and tell people that they shouldn't have any other Gods before him? I really am trying to understand the Christian perception of God but it's just so far fetched, from my point of view, that I can honestly see why people become atheists. Please note that I'm not saying your God or religion is invalid because I don't believe that at all. I think Christianity does a lot of good for a lot of people. It just isn't for me. And one of the reasons is because I just don't *get* the Christian concept of God.

Get some animals, kill them, chop up their bodies, wave body parts in the air, burn the carcasses, and sprinkle the blood all around -- in precisely the way God tells you. It may well make you sick, but it makes God feel good. 29:11-3

so animal souls have no value to you??

OK. My actual question is how come I never hear Christains say A DAMN word about those who do these sort of things (blow up clinics) but you all have something to say when an "unfair" generalization is made about you?

Seems the bombings are the worst of the 2, but you're all up in arms about my asking about it in a way that doesn't kiss your asses and I NEVER hear a word from Christains denouncing the actions of their own extremests.

Do you believe in God (or multiple gods)? Why or why not? If you do, do you belong to any particular religion? Which one, and why did you pick that one?

What does your religion or belief system say on the subjects of: Evolution, Life after death, Homosexuality, Prayer, The origin of the universe, Other religions/belief systems?

Note: I am just wondering what you believe, not looking for a sermon or rant. Please be civil.

Yes, I'm pretty much an absolute atheist, there's gonna be no changing that without a sudden and drastic global revelation. However, in my life, I've learned that when my gut says to do something, I do it, because it has never failed that the logic could not be understood pre-event, only post-event. My gut says go, so I'm going.

I've contacted the Rabbi at the local Reform Jewish Synagogue and have been invited to join tonight. I've squared away appropriate clothing, and for the day I'm doing my best to follow kosher rules as a show of respect for the holiness [in the eyes of those I will be in the company of] of their service and faith.

My question:

What advice/insight would you have to offer? I'm interested in hearing cultural feedback: modes of behavior expected, customs to follow/not follow, basically -- what advice would you give a friend you were inviting to go to Synagogue with you?

Obviously God knows our weaknesses and that we are sinners, according to the Bible. Do you think He trusts us? If so, why? Specifically, why would God trust people to spread His message from a tiny corner of the Middle East 2000 years ago, to every human being on every continent?

Does it upset you at all that God would trust some other person with your eternal suffering? That you might have spent eternity in hell if someone had made a different decision, like not to witness to you?

This is a real question, I'm not trying to attack anyone - just struggling with my beliefs and want to know how others work this out, if they do.

Christains: Since you believe it's OK to blow-up a health clinic if abortions are preformed there and you conscider it murder--BY THE SAME LOGIC, can someone blow-up a church if they think blowing up the clinc was murder?

Panspermia: basically microscopic life that travels from other planets in space debris and meteorites and when these crash into other planets they become the seeds of life, evolution does the rest, with more complex organisms forming gradually from the less complex ones over billions of years.

It doesn't explain how life originated in the first place, but it does explain how life on Earth may have started.

It is very common to hear this said on this forum. In this question I am not supporting any specific religion. The problem I see, though, is that this thought really puts me -- a man -- in the position of ultimate authority as to what God wants. It actually puts me in the position of being God myself. If I happen to run across a religion that is truly that which God has approved and I don't "feel comfortable" with it, then since I am really more of an authority on the subject than God I'll just simply find another man made religion that I "feel comfortable with" and declare it to be true.

I think many times we create an idea of who God is in our own minds and then try to mold our religion to that pre conceived idea rather than attempt to truly seek out who God says He is and then mold my thinking to His and submit my will to His whether I "feel comfortable" with His will or not.

How do you get "saved" or "born again". Is it something you state to yourself, or does it have to be done in front of a large group of people?

I had a woman tell me that all you need to do is accept Jesus as your Lord and you will be saved. (saying it outloud to yourself)

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Now i admit, i am a complete athiest, because if i dont see it, i cant as a cynical man believe it, thats just me. But i am very curious as to what holds the attention of people with faith. The bible appears to be written by many people, is there a starting point to the many stories in the book. some say it started way before jesus arrived, with all the different scriptures and tales and dates, how do any of you keep the faith? This is beyond confusion to me, I would love to know the precise moment the bible began its formation, and why. There is after all, no other evidence other than the bible, that any god existed

the people to hear what he had to say?
What if we had to pay each time we wanted to pray?
God has so much Love for us He gives it all away
for this is why He sent His Son for the price of sin to pay.
Would you give your life for Him the way He gave His for you?
And if they want to take your head do you know what you will do?
Do you believe His Love's the way and His word is really true?
And when He come's to take us away will you be ready too?

Why do preachers accuse aethiest/agnostics of being in league with or a vessel of the Devil when they (the a/a 's) question the validity of the bible or religion, especially as the Devil can only exist because of God, (with the Devil previously being one of God' Angels according to the Bible) ergo, to be in league with the Devil you would have to be a believer to acknowledge that the Devil exists and the A/A's don't?
