Now i admit, i am a complete athiest, because if i dont see it, i cant as a cynical man believe it, thats just me. But i am very curious as to what holds the attention of people with faith. The bible appears to be written by many people, is there a starting point to the many stories in the book. some say it started way before jesus arrived, with all the different scriptures and tales and dates, how do any of you keep the faith? This is beyond confusion to me, I would love to know the precise moment the bible began its formation, and why. There is after all, no other evidence other than the bible, that any god existed

Of course the Bible is true. Noah's Ark was powered by twin-engine Cummins diesels. And Noah's old lady used to water-ski behind it. Any other questions?

The reason the Bible is so credible is because all 66 books link in so closely with each other, despite being written by so many different authors over such a wide period of time, from so many different persuasians. The only way for them to be like that is for them to have been divinely inspired.
Then you only have to read the book of Luke to find another reason to believe the Bible is true. If it were a hoax, it would have been written in such a way that people would easily believe it. And yet Luke is written in a grandiose way. By nature people wish to be believed. Writing this book the way that Luke wrote it, wouldn't have accomplished that and he would have known it. So it would never have worked as a hoax. So it must be the truth.
Oh, and there is more historical evidence of the existence of Jesus than there is for the existence of Julius Caesar yet nobody seems to doubt Julius' existence

Do you know what? I think the Bible is a story book, no offence to the Christians out there. I think it's a bit like the Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales, I mean who knows a bloke who can cure people by touch, turn water into wine and walk on water? It was the Brother Grimm of the Roman time! I know this is my own opinion, but it is true as a book, just not the content. Sorry

The bible and all the other so called factual accounts of real life happenings can't be true, they may be loosely related to fables, myths and legends but come on, I'm with you if you can't see it,feel it,touch it,eat it, and rely on imagining it then it's probably not there in the first place, as for the world being created in seven days I think, how can you all turn your nose up at evolution this is fact and science, not conjecture and fiction, so all you sinners out there repent and start concentrating on your present life and let the future take care of itself...,,,

In it's physical format its real... you can touch it, read it (if you wanted), etc... but as you pointed out, it is a combination of stories handed down by mouth and written up in a number of languages, translated a number of times, finally from Latin & Greek into what we have today by male monks in time when women were chattles of men, when the Pope resided in France and it is significant in what it does not contain.... the parts that the pope and the French king didn't like, the odd few hundred commandments that Moses collected but again were not wanted, that Mary Magdalen was fairlly much attached to Jesus at the hip, and that Jesus wasn't the only miracle working son of god around some 200 years ago. Apart from that, it's as real as Hans Christian Andersens Tales.

TO THOSE THAT BELIEVE, NO PROOF IS NECESSARY!
TO THOSE THAT DO NOT, NO PROOF WILL SUFFICE!
"No man shall come to the Father except by me (said Jesus)
and no man shall come to me except those called by the Father."
I fervently hope that one day you may hear that call, but there"s no need to wait ! Seek and ye will find, after all, his thoughts and deeds have been carefully written down in a book that we call the BIBLE. Best wishes to you..........Barrie.

It was written by cleaver people to have power and influence over the ignorant and weak. It continues to do its work.

People are told to read it with the presupposition that everything in it is true.
If you read the Bible without any presuppositions or mental blinders, you will see the book for what it really is... a tome filled with glaring contradictions, inconsistencies, cruelty, and absurdities.

I've been thinking about your question and this came to mind.
Why are all these religious people constantly praying for forgiveness?
What the hell are they all up to?
Is there some after church bondage gang bangs going on that we're all missing out on?

I doubt the accuracy of most of the information in the bible. I don't think that's the point, though, eh?
