How do you get "saved" or "born again". Is it something you state to yourself, or does it have to be done in front of a large group of people?

I had a woman tell me that all you need to do is accept Jesus as your Lord and you will be saved. (saying it outloud to yourself)

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Salvation, or being born again are the same thing.

You can do it anywhere. All alone, or in a crowd. You just acknowlege you are a sinner, believe in your heart that Jesus dies for you sins, confess with your mouth that he is the Son of God, the savior, and ask him to save you. Its easy. But you have to truly believe it, not just go through the motions,.

Many people become born again in different places, in different ways. I mean, everyone is born again by admitting that he/she is a sinner and asking Jesus to forgive him/her from his/her sin and to come into his/her life.

But some people have prayed out loud at the front of Church, others have prayed with a good friend, others pray silently. They are all equally as saved as each other. The where and the manner don't matter.

According to Jesus and the Epistles....

It's simple: Be Baptized.

Salvation is by Grace (it's free) through Faith (which is also a gift) and nothing you can do - not even "deciding for Jesus" can accomplish....it's all God's doing.

Anything else is called "Pelagianism"...and condemned in the 4th Century.

Gospel of St. John, Chapter 3: 1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
3In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

4"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born OF WATER and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

1 Peter 3:21:

"The like figure whereunto even BAPTISM doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"

Romans 6:1-4

1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were BAPTIZED into His death? 4Therefore we were buried with Him through BAPTISM into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Here is a answer I gave a while back to another similar question. I just copied it to this answer. Hope it is of some help.

I agree with some of your thinking. Although salvation is a gift given by the grace of God not based upon my works or worthiness, scripture does give us a "recipe" for what He requires of each person in order to be saved. You have listed 2 very important ingredients. But scripture speaks of other ingredients just as forcefully.

Let's not forget that we are FIRST commanded to Believe. No repentance can occur unless one FIRST believes. Believe alone cannot save, though.

Scripture says also we are saved by faith through grace. So in addition to repent and trust we must also have faith.

Scripture also says " He that believeth AND is baptized will be saved. He that believeth not will be condemned" Basic grammar tells us that the word "and" is used in a sentence to require the equal necessity of both ideas it separates. So in addition to belief we must also be baptized.

So many look at all the examples in scripture of what is required of us to be saved and then say "well I agree with that part so it is necessary, but I don't agree with these other requirements so they aren't". How much pride we must have in ourselves to believe that when God says ALL these things save us that we can just throw out that part which we don't like.

So here is what I believe God tells us is necessary to be "born again.

Here
Believe
Repent
Confess His name
Be baptized for the remission of sins
Walk in the light as He is in the light

That's the recipe I read in scripture. Since God says EACH of these is involved in salvation I'm going to take Him at His word and submit to His wisdom not man's. Leave out one ingredient in an apple pie and you don't get an apple pie now do you?

being saved and born again means the same thing. it is something between you and God at first but once you accept Jesus Christ as your saviour it is important to let other believers know that they can encourage you in your growth with God. To be born again means that you acknowledge you sin and know that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, He is still alive and you are given eternal life. You just say to God what it is you recognize and your need for Him. I encourage you to get into a bible believing church and join a discipleship group to learn more about Gods word. i'm so excited for you. you in for a wild ride!

You cannot do this for yourself, it is something Jesus (aka, the Holy Spirit) must do for you. He is willing and waiting for you to ask...
You will know the difference in yourself immediately, and, as the Holy Spirit makes Himself at home within you, you will change and grow...it's the greatest adventure there is.
Don't miss it!!

According to the bible, no one is saved yet. In Matt 10:22, Jesus tells his apostles that he who endures to the end is saved. And to my understanding, "the end" is either your death or Armageddon and neither of those has happened yet. Plus, it would be presumptuous of myself to assume that I will be saved because only God knows and decides who will be saved or not.
