"Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead?"

Could somebody please help me understand this verse? I read it last night and couldn't remember ever seeing it before, even though I've read this chapter many, many times. What does it mean to be 'baptized for the dead?' Do some people become baptized on behalf of somebody that is already dead?

My mother runs a daycare from the home and has children on wknds also. The church bus picks up the children and takes them to Sunday School. Apparently one parent was told not to send her 6 yr. old little girl any longer as she has bad behaviours. This girl is a foster child and has already had anguish in being pulled away from her Mommy , now this? In my opinion this stinks. This child will always remember this, what kind of start in her spiritual journey is this? I can easily see her as young woman saying " I went to Sunday School as a child til they told me not to come back so screw that business". What do you think? I want to talk to the Pastor as I am having a hard time believing he even knows about this. Yes?

Didn't Frankenstein kill his creator in the end? (I can't remember the movie so well but anyway,) In this tale, god creates this Monster and obviously did a poor job at keeping it happy, so it decides to attack its own creator. I find this pretty funny, but why would an omniscient god create a monster if he knows he won't get allong with it? Is the universe as a whole actually just a dog chasing it's own tale?

there were no more "what if" questions? There are roughly 750,000 words in the english launguage, sooner or later all the words will be arranged in every possible way; then what? Now I know that there are many different languages, and just as many posssibilities; my question concerns the absolute of questioning. Will there come a day when there is no new question to ask? Will we finally live in a world of answers rather than questions and confusion? Will this finally reveal god's soft, underbelly?

I mean there are all kinds of godly figures in the world, but why a monkey? and there are some other ones where the things have many hands and feet or even 10 heads. Is there a logic to this whole mythology?

Because in christanity there is only one and he is human.

Because with all of the "Christians" on here who attack everyone without grace, acceptance, or a real desire to actually help or enlighten anyone, I would not want to end up stuck with these people in the afterlife. They are some of the most terrible people that I've ever had the misfortune to experience. Why on earth would I strive to spend eternity with them?

This is another debatable doctrine of the Body of Christ relating to the end-times, the second coming of Christ in relation to the Great Tribulation period. Do you think it will be in the pretribulational rapture period, the mid-trib, pre-wrath, or posttrib rapture era period? We Christians seem to be all mixed-up with these end-times theology about the Rapture theory of the Church!

People are so incredibly lame. They can't handle a little skepticism or doubt. They automatically feel like they need to jump all over everyone who says anything that could be twisted and misconstrued to mean that they don't have faith in God.

If you can't question your faith, then how do you know the depth of your belief?

Let's negate for a moment the idea of whether science has proven or disproven the origin of homosexuality (i.e., nurture versus nature). I don't want to hear any answere about whether "science has proven" or "science hasn't proven" yada yada.

I just want to know what everybody thinks about the idea of homosexuals being "born" the way they are. It strikes me as funny that heterosexuals who are "against" homosexuality (think it's a sin, whatever) can be SO CERTAIN that gays and lesibans are not born the way they are. If you aren't homosexual yourself, how can you possibly know whether a homosexual is "born" the way they are? You're not in their shoes; how can you possibly know.

That's what I think, anyway; I'm interested in other opinions.

This is in the "religious" category because I'm anticipating many of the answers having to do with religion, in case you're wondering.

life is probably put together better than we have imagined it to be put together? I'm not really looking for answers, I'm just wondering if everything is in a better state than we usually see it. Are our lives guided by something that "knows what's best for us" which is guiding us to a greater end than we have imagined; or are we the ones in the driver's seat, and if so, why do we create problems in our life? What if you knew that the power to all this was in your hands?

Surely if god is ignoring those suffering in hell even when they scream for forgiveness, it is exactly like the pharisee and the levi passing by on the other side of the road.

If god were to act truly in the manner that jesus spoke of, surely he would help those in hell, even if they rejected him in life (i.e. were his enemies, like the samaritan). There is no way you can say he is unable to help them as he is supposed to be omnipotent.

People have been telling me this analogy doesn't work, if so please explain why.

Karma: it the physically disabled persons own fault they are like that.
It is a mistake they made in a past life and now they have to pay for it without even knowing what mistake it was and so would probably do it again since there was no lesson to learn cause they just cannot remember.

I don't see Karma in this world, I don't see justice either, except if I take control and perform it myself.

Where do you find proof of Karma?

I mean really...am I supposed to believe that "noah" built an ark and then put two of every animal on it...including all 250,000 species of beetles!!!...to me thats just down right hilarious....i went to catholic school for 13 years and i know that the old testament is not to be taken literally...but how can some people really take that literally. Would you teach people out of a science book that was 2000 years old. People would laugh at you right....but yet people still believe literally in a 2000+ year book. I don't know.
