I mean really...am I supposed to believe that "noah" built an ark and then put two of every animal on it...including all 250,000 species of beetles!!!...to me thats just down right hilarious....i went to catholic school for 13 years and i know that the old testament is not to be taken literally...but how can some people really take that literally. Would you teach people out of a science book that was 2000 years old. People would laugh at you right....but yet people still believe literally in a 2000+ year book. I don't know.

Listen son, are you trying to get yourself reported because that is what will happen in here with an attitude like that.

Nobody says that you have to believe what they believe so just leave them alone, okay.

Like some of the others mentioned, there are numerous cultures all referring to a major flooding. There is now very strong evidence of there being an Atlantis which is covered by ice and snow. What truly happened, (whether there was an actual ark), is irrelevant. The flooding did happen. I have also HEARD that some of the structures in Egypt may have been there before the flooding, because they show weathering caused by ice movement. But I don't know if this part is a truth... It is one thing I would like to further research, and encourage anyone interested in this to also research. As for God... I have had my time of doubt, like so many others, and I feel that the Bible should be taken as a guide book for life, and is flawed because it is put into words by man, (who is by nature, flawed). I believe in God, and I base my actions accordingly to the Bible, but it does not mean that I think someone who chooses a different path to my beliefs to be a sinner, and I definitely do not take everything literally from the Bible... I just try to live my life in a manner that respects others. I pray some day you come to understand the difference between believing in God, and the Bible.

Well, I DO believe in God. However, I understand your confusion. Any so-called "religion" where there's a "god" involved, it is a belief or a faith. That means, to the believer, you don't need proof. Logic says that we all come from somewhere, so why not have faith in God? In America, you have the choice of any religion or none at all.

The Bible is actually much older. It is several books written hundreds of years apart. Logic says that these books and statements are impossible to be able to account the same stories written so many years apart; however they do. THAT is logic. So yes, Christianity does have a large following. If you choose to not believe, that is on you. But don't discredit something you don't know about in the first place.

I have to admit though, you went to catholic school and I can see why you'd think this way. It's kind of scary the way they are more for worshipping saints and the pope instead of God.

God Bless.

What I think is hilarious (actually it's rather sad) is that ppl can have faith in myths such as evolution(it really is hilarious how 'BOOM" and there was the earth lol ya right) which has been proved false many times but can't have faith in a God. It is far more logical to believe in a Superme Being. And Noah? Spare me the time of going into detail about how many times it has been proved that there has been a world wide flood. And isn't it possible that God created those 250,000 species of beetles after the flood? I am not believing simply out of fear. I believe because I know that Jesus died for me so that I can have a better life. Yes, I should fear going to Hell. But even if there was no Heaven or Hell i would still believe because he is the one that gives me my joy. He is the one that keeps me breathing. So I believe and I will always believe. because there is to much proof for me not to believe.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. While you may believe in science, others may be deeply religious. It's all about what gives you the most comfort and what you truly think is, well, the truth. You're not "supposed" to believe anything. In fact, you don't even have to believe anything. You can go through your whole life unsure. That's what agnosticism is.

No, I would most definately NOT teach out of a 2000 year old Science book. I wouldn't teach out of a 5 year old science book. :-P

Oh, and the Bible is far older than 2000 years. At least the Old Testament is.

Actually it was seven of the animals that are good for food. I am sure the insects found the ark themselves. Then you have natural evolution/speciation which diversifies. Also, it is possible that there was some high places were there were no people and God saved some of the animals Himself. After all, the ark didn't necessarily go everywhere (40 days undirected floating probably didn't cover a lot of territory). Some Historians theorize that the Flood was actually a semi-local phenomenon.

We dont believe in God because we read the Bible. We believe God THEREFORE we read the Bible. To be able to believe the things in the Bible one has to believe God to begin with.

Also that is why we call things like the flood MIRACLES because they are supernaturally caused! How special would God be if he didnt create us or wasnt omniscient?

Well there is the very proof right there, why do so many people believe in books that were written some 2000-4000 years ago? Maybe they were inspired by God and there is truth in there that can save you like Jesus dying for your sins?

I tell you the truth no science book I ever read taught me how to love others, shared with me the truth of humanity, taught values, nor offered eternal life.

I am an atheist, so I agree with you.

But to assail Xtians as not thinking logically is flawed. Due to their belief system, they are following logic.

Read a book, act on what it says, and put faith in what it says is true in hopes of salvation. This is very logical. Its what yoou yourself do when you read an instruction manual of any kind. That is what the Bible is, an instruction manual to salvation.

Granted, the issue of fear may be the subconscious motivator. Who knows what happens when we die? I don't, and neither do you. Xtians, possibly out of fear as you stated, are just purchasing an extended warranty on their lifetime.

As most people will agree, extended warranties are usually a waste of money and are never used. But irregardless, they are still thinking logically within the confines of their own mindset.

Good point though on the 2ooo year old science book!

OK if you do not believe in God then what;s left? An ark holding a pair of animals in that part of the world is possible. The earth is pretty big and the flood may not have flooded the entire globe, but maybe just that half kind of like how the tides work.

Why would it be fear that makes us believe in God? Couldn't hope play a role? I think that you have a very, very narrow view on this, tho it is interesting. Usually people who do not believe in God make their claim based on things like lack of prof or the state of the world today, but you have looked at just part of the Bible, a part that you are even told not to believe word for word. Open your eyes.

You don't have to be part of a formal religion to believe in God. There are too many honest people with credible stories of after death communication that point to life after death. I believe in God not out of fear, but out of awe and wonderment. In fact, I look forward to what comes next....it has to be better than this world where people manipulate and back stab each other. We can't even learn to get along in our own communities, cities, counties, and states much less other countries with totally different believe systems and cultures.
