Religion & Spirituality - 25 October 2006

I hear only of those two, but i've yet to hear any other explanation. Perhaps those are the only logical ones, or perhaps NEITHER is correct and the real answer lies beyond the abilities of human processing capabilities? What are your thoughts?

Can you explain to me what makes you think that you have a soul and an after life and an ant doesnt? What makes you so special? What, because you can talk? So what, being able to talk doesnt make you have a soul. Do you think you have a soul because you have emotions? So what? We already know emotions are physically based in the brain, so that doesnt need there to be a soul. So what is your reason? I know why you believe in a soul even though theres all this evidence against it its because your too weak accept the fact that when you die you dont exist anymore, and that theres no god. So can you explain to me why you, as opposed to the trillions of ants in the world and other animals, have a soul and they dont and you can't use the bible because thats garbage and useless to anyone with a half a brain to know that its all garbage. I'm just using this ant example of one of many reasons why there isnt a soul so even if you believe an ant or any other animal has a soul you need to explain

Do people not realise that evolution actually can support the existance of God. Far better than creationism can.
The missing link, for instance, or how it all started in the first place.

Why is it that the theory of evolution is so hated by those who are religious? (I am aware that not ALL religious people hate it, I'm just generalising for the sake of the question.)

If God created everything and has infinite power and ability, why do religious people put so many restrictions on how, when, and why God can interact with us? Sounds a little TOO convenient. The sooner we realize that the God story is a just a myth, the sooner we can realize we're on our own here and maybe we should start by stop killing each other over these stupid myths and start working together to create a better place for our children to grow up in. There is no grand plan no eye in the sky...and even if there was, he's not playing a big role in letting us know what he wants so might as well, start making our own destiny....lets start by creating a heaven on Earth for everyone to enjoy.

Just a regular middle-aged, former hippie-grandfather dude, loyal to his wife, loving life; lucky to live in sunny California, did good work, not a (total) jerk. Must be good for something, the wife has kept me 30 years. So why MUST I believe in a dead Jewish carpenter god myth(or insert here your god-myth) to be happy? I am happy now!


PS I did try the christian bit. THe more I read bibles AND studied their origins, the less I believed until i realized that the Jesus myth is just another myth like THor, Odin , or Isis.

I think that will be a muslim, in the Bible it says that if you will not convert your heard will be cut off, have you notice only extreme muslims who only practice that kinda thing! and not any other religion.what you think?
And the muslim is now waiting for their Islamic savior which is Al madi will rise to great power and conquer the world for Islam. He will annihilate Christians and Jews, will conquer Jerusalem, and will fill the world with Islamic justice.

Lets start with the definition of scientific theory:

In science, a theory is a proposed description, explanation, or model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition. For example, it is a fact that an apple dropped on earth has been observed to fall towards the center of the planet, and the theory which explains why the apple behaves so is the current theory of gravitation.

Evolution does not predict how life first arose. It explains and predicts what happened after.
Evolution has nothing to do with Big Bang theory.
Got it?

Things of the such that you can't physically put your hands on or make someone else perceive exactly like you do, but you believe that it is, and it makes sense to you (for whatever reason)?

How come they believe what they want to believe but mock people of religious faith? When we have evidence sufficient enough for us to know that God is real.

(again in reference to my question on dinosaurs) Then why do you dwell on a book that was written 2000 years ago to control a bunch of sheep herders? Is that not dwelling on the past? How is that book more important than anything else in history? Is that helping you "pay the bills"?

I try to relate the bible to today's scientific world as much as possible. The cursed placed on his descendants was leprosy. In Leviticus chapter 13 it explains leprosy as it was viewed in those days. It differs today from the biblical account of the disease.
