Folks, thank you for your answers. As you see it the reason why we eat animals like say pigs is because of one of the following reasons:

God said we could eat meat after the flood;

pigs taste good; and

we are intelligent and pigs are not.

Lets think about human vegetables now. Human vegetables have no sentient ability; they cannot think, communicate or do anything without assistance. They are made of meat, like pigs. And thousands of years of human cannibalism, widespread across cultures, is proof that human flesh tastes good.

So all the reasons that you have given for eating pigs apply to eating people without brain function.

Why is it that we do not eat these human vegetables?

On what basis do we give them human rights since they are so much less than human, just slabs of living meat?

I am so amazed that some people don't believe in God. How can anyone go outside and look up at the clouds, or at the trees that change with the seasons, the animals, two people in love, a baby, the sunrise or sunset, a deer playing with her baby, birds that are so amazing and build nests and fly south for the winter and not believe that there is a creator that put all of this into order? It seems like it would take more faith to not believe than it does to believe since the evidence is so clear. It is to me anyway. Just a question I came up with while I was driving home and enjoying creation. How can this be that some don't believe?

I have not been brought up with a religious background, however I do have faith in God. I just am not sure how to pray or to whom to pray. I do pray to God, but what about my Grandfather that passed? Can I pray to him? Do I pray to Jesus? I realize that it probably doesn't matter and I'm more curious than anything, but I also want to be sure that I'm not being disrespectful in some way.

I for one am scared by her mental state! and dont think she should be encouraged- what do you think!!??

there are some christians who use medicine/hospitals to heal and others who believe that it is wrong and sinful? what are the theological arguments that support these ideas?

example: how could it be bad to use aspirin for a headache? if it's not bad, are there reasons given in the bible that say it is okay?

serious question; please no defensive anger.

what would you do to 'test' Him and see if He's real and God's Son? even though we're not supposed to 'test' Him, but how would you go about it? which miracle (walking on water, turning the water into wine, healing the sick, raising the dead, etc) would be convincing enough to make you believe?

There is one other thing I would like to ask about animals and souls.

Take the example of pigs. We eat pigs which are intelligent animals. I have an especially astute pig named Gordon. Gordon has mounted my leg as I type this email. (pause) He is now back out in his trailer. Looks like another question, Gordons leg shagging, I am thinking about what this means in terms of sinning. But right now lets get the spiritual issue of the possibility of his soul out there.

Some of you think the pigs have souls, and some of you dont.

If they have souls, then the pigs may go to heaven. God may call the pigs to heaven.

So help me here: what is it about pigs that means humans are so much superior to them that ethically, in Gods eyes, we can eat them?

Or is God only calling them to heaven for the purposes of bacon, barbequing and whatnot?

I gotta go with the liberal Christians/Catholics. These folks don’t get much support. Between the conservative Christians who keep saying they’re not Christians and the religion bashers who bash them. So here is a big thumbs up to all you all!

Evolution is science, it was built on the same factual science the created your computer, your electricity, your advil you take when you have a headache, the car you drive, and your glasses/contact lens/hearing aids. NONE of those would exist without science. Now, just because evolution doesn't agree with Genesis (the most loosely written book of the bible that the past and present Pope have said not to take literally), some christians are up in arms b/c this threatens your belief in God. So, even though you use all the previously mentioned consumer goods (that are a direct product of scientific research and development within it's fields) you reject the science of evolution? You can't pick and choose to believe some science and not believe other sciences. All the fields of science are connected, including evolution with connections in chemistry, physics, biology, geology, etc. So why do you not believe in evolution? If you do believe in it, then tell me I'm not crazy.....

"Holy water in churches carries a lot of fecal matter from people who didn't wash their hands properly dipping into it, if you have a cut or it gets on the mucous membranes you'd risk a nasty infection, stick with clean tap water."

Like when you hear about some tragedy like the shooting in the Amish school - do you have an impulse to say something like "our prayers are with you"?

Or do you do a "new age" technique and send your energy of love?

Or would you just express your sorrow to them in words if you were a neighbor? Like "I'm sorry for your loss."

Just curious. Thanks.

Person A. Life long commited athiest. lived a fairly average life, paid his taxes, never been unfaithful, helped where he could. Dies instantaneously in a car crash having just dropped of some things at a charity shop. Occasionally got drunk, swore now and then, once took a pen home from the office.

Person B. Life long petty criminal, dealt a few low level drugs. never worked. Fathered a string of children by different women he's never seen. Learns he has a terminal illness, sees the light, genuinely repents of his sins.
