why do religions, especially catholic, insist on promoting childbirth? when is the pope going to recognise this as a real problem and suggest birth control as a viable solution? does he think his god is going to save the earth when it is so far gone that it cant come back?

Over population is the biggest problem we have, but religious leaders encourage childbirth out of personal insecurities and also the insecurities of the religion as a whole. They beleive the larger the following, the larger the numbers, the more power the leaders and the religion will have. They will hold greater sway and the religion will hold greater sway in political circles. Catholic faith is not the only one that does this, any faith that has well defined leaders does this. I am wrong in saying the faith does this, because it is the leaders and the clergy who perpetuate these thoughts.

It may not be the biggest as it appears a nuclear war is being a real possibility. But it certainly is a really big problem. In Asia they have pretty much took care of the problem because they only allowed one child and they made sure it was a boy.
the bad thing for them is boys can't reproduce. So they are left with a nation of men and no wives. That should cut down the population a lot. Muslims almost did that. They killed by burying alive all female babies until Mohammad came along and said, "we need the women to reproduce." They didn't see any advantage to a female child. So he did save the Arabian race by stopping the killing of the female babies. However they do have a shortage of women, some people just don't want a female baby. So eventually there should be a natural occurring less people. I just am shocked at seeing how much men really hate women. Kind of scary. Working in the hospital men were openly disappointed when their wives had baby girls. They were jumping around so happy when it was a boy.

While I think the use of birth control is a private decision between a man and woman, I don't think It's whether there is enough in this earth to wisely go around, it's about how that stuff is distributed.

But also, FYI, many do believe the earth can be renewed and restored by God.

No... it isn't. Maybe you happen to live in one tiny section of the world that's a bit crowded, but that's not how the rest of this world is. There's room for all of us and much, much more. Even if there wasn't, overpopulation is a self-correcting problem. We run low on resources, birth rates drop, there are more resources per person, the birth rate rises, rinse, repeat. Welcome to the life cycle of everything on the planet, enjoy your stay.

You have to remember that religion is about the afterlife, not this one. Over population with it's associated poverty, disease, famine and poor education is a superb device for speeding up the process.

"does he think his god is going to save the earth when it is so far gone that it cant come back?"

You are one of little faith.

God will save the earth, and he will do it for the meek ones.

Mat 5:5 "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
