I believe that tithing means giving 10% of your income to do God's work, so this would include giving to charities that help the poor or sick or whatever. But every church I have been to seems to interpret tithing as meaning to give 10% to the church (I guess other charitable giving would have to be above and beyond that). What do you think, and can you back it up with some scripture?

Moses said "Without the shedding of blood there is no atonement for sins." Leviticus 17vs11

Isaiah explained it-52vs13-53vs12 "He will be exaulted but first marred more than any man. He will lay down his life as an atonement for our sins." and much more pointing right to Jesus the Messiah and savior of the world

-if we repent of our sins and let him into our heart to be our friend.

Why should I take your religion serious and reject the rest like you guys tell me to? All the other religions tell me to accept theirs and reject the others, so why should I listen to you instead of them? You both claim to have holy and sacred text that is the word of your god(s), yet none of you are offering me any hardcore, scientific evidence and proof of the existence of your god(s).

Yes, you can say I should become Christian because "god loves me" but all the other religions say that, they just replace the word "god" with another name for their deity. You could say that I'll be rewarded with eternal life and happiness in a paradise, but the others can say that too. You can say that if I don't workship your god, I'll be tortured for all eternity after I die, and all the other religions can say that too.

So tell me, why should I consider your god and heaven as anything more than wishful thinking and reject the other infinite number of possible gods?

I was raised in a Christian school because my parents believe in they offer a better education than the public schools here in my city. However, they are not Christians, they are Buddhists. So have been the rest of my family for... oh, hundreds of years?

I am not a Christian (yet?) and I always get EXTREMELY angry when my friends try to convert me because if I were to believe in God, I'd have to believe that my family and my ancestors ALL will/have gone to hell. I can't even FATHOM thinking about something like that - they've all lived lives so pure and ethical, more than these so-called Christians I see today. I can't even begin to pour down all the good things they've done their whole lives. Benevolence doesn't even begin to describe the way my family lives, especially my grandparents, aunts, and uncles who are ALL BUDDHISTS.

In the Bible, it teaches that the only way to get into heaven is through accepting Jesus Christ in your heart... so... engighten me plz people!!

Here is their homepage... I really hope that whoever looks at this is sickened by it! For those of you who don't know of these people, they are the one's who travel around the country to protest at the funerals of military personel.

I understand that they have to live in celibacy so they cannot have relationships, but can they fall in love? If love happens accidentally or it develops from friendship or if there is love on a first sight so they can fall in love. It must be impossibly hard to live with sth like that?

Or speak of you with ill contempt, lie about you and prejudge you and/or your family because of their own hang-ups or misconceptions? This is why I stand in awe of Jesus, because he even showed love to the dude who sold him out and got him crucified. How do we simple mortals get on that level? I'm willing to try.

Can there really be such a thing as idolising? I mean God's everywhere, so even worshipping a rock is actually worshipping God, because God is present even in a rock.

Thoughts?

"The Pope played a leading role in a systematic cover-up of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests, according to a shocking documentary to be screened by the BBC tonight.

In 2001, while he was a cardinal, he issued a secret Vatican edict to Catholic bishops all over the world, instructing them to put the Church's interests ahead of child safety.

The document recommended that rather than reporting sexual abuse to the relevant legal authorities, bishops should encourage the victim, witnesses and perpetrator not to talk about it. And, to keep victims quiet, it threatened that if they repeat the allegations they would be excommunicated. " (Ewan Fletcher)
Panorama: Sex Crimes And The Vatican is on BBC1 tonight at 10.15pm.

Webster's definition (from dictionary.com)

Atheist (noun)

A person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.

- An Atheist is one who denies the existence of a deity or of divine beings.

- An Agnostic is one who believes it impossible to know anything about God or about the creation of the universe and refrains from commitment to any religious doctrine.

- An Infidel means an unbeliever, especially a nonbeliever in Islam or Christianity.

- A Skeptic doubts and is critical of all accepted doctrines and creeds.

Atheists and Agnostics have two different points of view when it comes to a deity, you’ll also notice the word denies in the definition…

I am an atheist, see I even have the t-shirt, why do some posters think that I don't exist.

A lot of people seem to come here for different reasons.

1) actually discuss matters of religion & culture
2) just have a good time even if it's not serious
3) have your own preconceived notions reinforced
4) preach to other people about how your religion is the only true one
5) troll for attention
6) game for points

I personally am here for 1 & 2, and tend to respect most those people.

Those who are here for 3 & 4 annoy me, but yeah, they have a right to be here.

I wish those here for 5 & 6 would just go away.

That being said, why are you here?
What brings you to this site?
What kinds of people annoy you most?
.... and does that have to do with their beliefs, or the way they conduct themselves?

Must be for everyone to waste their time on religion. Even if God is real, man only loves God because man loves so much (and does not know what to love). I see it as a weakness to not love things that are real like art, history, science.

Recently I asked a question about how people deal with violence in the Bible and a Christian wrote me this:

"War was necessary to take the lands God had given to the Jewish nation. The people groups living in what was and is, Jewish land, had to be removed. God could not allow these people to mix with His holy nation. Have you investigated those people who lived there? Check into the Canaanites, they weren't exactly peace loving people."

I don't have anything against Jews, I accept Israel in the borders of 1948 and also think they have a right to defend themselves (by defence I mean defence, not aggression) , but my question is, are there Christians who apply the very violent Bible verses about war on today, and think that Israel had a right to do everything there? Do you think that Palestinians should be "removed" from that land (including West Bank)? Do you think Israelis had a Biblic right to kill Arab civilians? Would you approve if Israel used more violence than it does?
