Obviously some generalisations are true, in that they define a group: All Christians believe Jesus was the son of God, for example; all muslims believe the Angel Gabriel revealed the word of God to Muhammad. But these are just definitions.
A lot of the questions in Religion and Spirituality are generalisations ("Why are all muslims terrorists?", "Why do atheists always just bash christians?" etc etc), and generalisations are easy to refute by counterexample.
So why do SO many people waste their time making these generalisations?
